Vizio PC lineup 2013 refresh hands-on: it’s time for touch

Vizio PC lineup 2013 refresh hands-on: it’s time for touch

Vizio's new Windows 8 Tablet PC was definitely one of the devices that caught our interest during CES 2013, but the company isn't content with stopping at just tablets. In fact, Vizio seems to have become very enthusiastic about Windows 8, introducing new lines of touch-based notebooks and all-in-one PCs that are ready to take full advantage of the operating system. We got to spend a little bit of time with them when we stopped by for a visit with Vizio, and starting right off, we have to say that we like what the company was showing off.

CES 2013 wrap-up: Gaming gets the spotlight

CES 2013 wrap-up: Gaming gets the spotlight

We're used to CES being all about gadgets and technology in general, but this year, there were actually a surprising number of major gaming announcements. NVIDIA positioned itself front and center, leading the charge and talking about a number of new products and services that are bound to get any gamer bouncing up and down with glee. Perhaps the biggest reveal NVIDIA's press conference held was the reveal of Project SHIELD, a new Android-based games console that's packing the company's latest mobile processor, the Tegra 4.

Vizio 11.6-inch Windows 8 Tablet PC hands-on

Vizio had a lot of cool things to show off at CES 2013, but one of the most exciting is its new 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet. The tablet doesn't have a name yet, but the specifications speak for themselves. First off (and perhaps most importantly to some) is the fact that this tablet is running Windows 8 rather than Windows RT, which is great news for those who want the full Windows functionality on a slate.

Pelican offers protection for Galaxy S III with two new cases

Amid the chaos of CES 2013, we discovered that Pelican is plotting to enter the mobile case business. The company was showing off cases for the iPhone 5 and iPad, but it also had two cases for the Samsung Galaxy S III on hand and ready to show off. The cases we saw for the Galaxy S III were certainly impressive, and if you find other protective cases a bit too bulky, you might want to give these a look.

Minecraft sales top 15 million in 2012

We already knew that sales for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition came in over the 5 million mark for 2012, but today we're getting a broader picture of the sales the franchise managed last year. Mojang has shared a list of Christmas Day stats for all versions of Minecraft, and in doing so, the company has also revealed how many sales each version brought in throughout 2012. Needless to say, the numbers for each impress, while the final tally for the franchise in general is pretty staggering.

Samsung 8-core Exynos 5 Octa chip revealed with two sets of four cores

CES 2013 has already brought some very exciting news about mobile processors, with NVIDIA revealing its Tegra 4 processor during its press conference earlier in the week. Not one to be outdone, Samsung today officially pulled the veil off its 8-core Exynos 5 Octa chip. Comprised of two sets of four cores, the Exynos 5 Octa is obviously geared toward keeping things moving fast and fluid, even when multiple applications are running on your mobile device.

YotaPhone hands-on

YotaPhone hands-on

To be completely honest, the YotaPhone is one of devices I've been most looking forward to seeing during Slashgear's stay here at CES 2013. The device was announced last year and was immediately turning heads with its dual-screen setup. Dual-screen phones are nothing new, but the folks at Yota have put their own little spin on the dual-screen setup: instead of offering two LCD screens, the YotaPhone sports an HD LCD display on the front, and an eInk display around the back.

Boogie Board Sync 9.7 hands-on

Boogie Board Sync 9.7 hands-on

These days, it seems that the art of taking down handwritten notes is dying. Why use a pen and paper when you've got a tablet or ultrabook in your bag that you can use to type things up instead? There is something to be said for handwritten notes, however - sometimes it's much faster to write down something by hand, and during big shows like CES, taking along a pen and some paper ultimately cuts down on the amount of stuff you're taking onto the show floor.

NVIDIA’s CES 2013 press conference now available for all to see

If we were to list the companies that have enjoyed a really, really big CES 2013, NVIDIA would probably rank toward the top. Not only did the company announce new and interesting things like GeForce Experience and NVIDIA GRID, but it also unleashed the Tegra 4 mobile processor on the world and introduced us to Project SHIELD, a new Android-based gaming console of sorts that has everyone talking.

Tethercell lets you control battery powered devices from your phone

We've seen our share of cool devices and ideas here at SlashGear, but this one might just rank up with the best of them. Today at ShowStoppers we got to take a look at a new technology called Tethercell, which incidentally went live on crowdfunding site Indiegogo earlier today. Tethercell has received a significant amount of funding in its first day, due to the simple fact that it allows you to control your battery powered devices from your smartphone.
