Pretec to demo World’s first 32GB SDXC and 100GB 666x CF

Judging by the frequent of Pretec breakthrough flash-based storage cards, breaking records must be part of Pretec quarterly exercise. The company is set to unveil not only the World’s First SDXC, but also an unprecedented 100GB CompactFlash at 666x. The latter up the ante, broke company’s own CF’s record at 433X.

Even with new standard still in lobbying effort, Pretec has the go-ahead with the SXDC small form factor flash-based memory standard that’s capable of reaching 2TB. Pretec will exhibit both the 32GB SXDC and 666x, that’s capable of 100MB/s transfer rate, at PMA and CeDIA tomorrow. We’ll visit each both tomorrow to dig deeper on the cost.

A “Sneak Peek” at Pentax’s X70

A “Sneak Peek” at Pentax’s X70

My first stop at PMA 2009 Sneak Peek Luncheon was Pentax booth, I knew something was up when a small group Japanese reporters gathered at the rather disappointing pre show event. I was told to return couple hours later, and there it was. Empty spots now filled two new bodies, not the new hybrid standard I was hoping for, but a 12Mp ultra zoom with 24x optics dubbed X70. It drew crowd nevertheless, and the show actually peaked for a minute there.

Samsung LapFit D190SU with DisplayLink Review

Samsung LapFit D190SU with DisplayLink Review

A few weeks ago, Samsung Korea launched a series of low profile external LCD monitors intended to serve as notebook or netbook companion displays.  Essentially, it's a same LCD display as in Samsung's current notebooks, but with adjustable height: when it stands, it's as tall as your laptop to ensure everything lines up with no offset.  However there's more technology gone into the LapFit than the design; it also comes equipped with Samsung's UbiSync technology aka the DisplayLink USB graphic chip embedded into the display, enabling plug-n-play monitor expansion via a simple USB connection. Last week SlashGear was offered an exclusive preview of the new breed of Samsung SyncMaster, a 19-inch LapFit dubbed the D190SU, and we took the bait.

Trendnet TEW-664UB 300Mbps dual band wireless N USB adapter

Trendnet TEW-664UB 300Mbps dual band wireless N USB adapter

Speaking of a dual band wireless-N gimmick, I still got bad taste in mouth dealing the supposedly one of the best Linksys’s WRT610N. Though the device has received great reviews with terrific transfer rates, but the only way to get the connection stays is dropping the 5Ghz spectrum, what’s the point? Oh wait, this post is not about Linksys’s router, is Trendnet dual band wireless N USB adapter.

Jobo announces GIGA Vu SONIC and GIGA one SONIC image storage devices, rebranded Hyperdrives

Jobo has recently announced two new photo storage devices – GIGA Vu SONIC and one GIGA One SONIC -- with features and appearances closely resembled to Sanho Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA and Space.

The GiGA One SONIC has monochrome 1.8 inch display, functions more of a quick-n-dirty backup device with maximum transfer speed of 20MB/s. At that rate, it allows 1GB of images to be copied into the storage in less than one minute. Assuming it’s a rebranded Hyperdrive’s Space with similar battery life, a single charge would last up to 120GB of data transfer.

OWC unveiled Voyager Q hdd docking stations, Quad-interface included

When I first heard of hdd docking station, I was thrilled and excited about the simplicity of accessing an internal 3.5-inch form factor hard drive with plug-n-play ability. Forget the external enclosure unit, a bare drive docking unit is the best hdd accessory ever invented and you better believe it. The increasingly popular hard drive docking station is everywhere now, and even OWC has joined the bandwagon.
