If you own an iPhone 4S already, then you already know how ‘smart’ Siri really is. Actually, voice recognition on the 4S is all these ads promote. But for those of you still skeptical towards the whole ‘Virtual Assistant’ bit, these two commercials are for you.

The first is my favorite of the two. Titled “Rock God”, this clip is aimed towards you musicians out there. Sometimes it’s hard to know what commands Siri will properly respond to. But here you’ll notice Siri can look up music notations. Oddly, I tried asking Siri how to play a few of the songs in the commercial but they weren’t recognized. When asking “How do I play a B minor 9th” it ended up working fine.

The second, labeled “Road Trip”, depicts a couple traveling across the US using Siri to guide them from place to place. It seems I’m learning something new from every commercial featuring Siri, because now i know it can look up constellation via Wolfram Alpha. Doesn’t that make you wonder what other commands Siri is capable of? Sure you can Google them, but it would be great if they were all featured on Apple’s official site.

‘Super Wi-Fi‘ has been in the works for years now, and the first in the nation has finally deployed in Wilmington, North Carolina. This new network is running on the currently bare “white space”. In 2010, the FCC had reported their approval for devices to run over this spectrum. At this same time, the FCC had required manufacturers to install special equipment into devices that would benefit from Super Wi-Fi.

These regulations had recently diminished, and current requirements state that a device has to have geolocation capabilities and access the spectrum database. Regulations were formerly in place because it was thought use of this spectrum would interfere with TV signals. When in fact, the white space will operate at 40 milliwatts alongside these stations. Without interference, the network will operate at 100 milliwatts, and users should see much faster speeds.

Hanover County is the precise location for this project, and if successful it would be great to see it blanket the nation. It would help those in rural areas finally have a decent internet connection. Actual purchase for these white space spectrums will be very competitive. They are essentially untouched television stations, so all broadcasting and wireless companies will be potential buyers.

Emergency alerts have now been subtly added to Google Maps, and are now live across the United States. Never again will you have to navigate from page to page looking for specific information on flood warnings, earthquakes, or even snowstorms. Maps will now show all the specifics: from the warning duration, to even how severe it may be.

Google uses more than one source to gather this new information. Warnings are provided by the National Weather Service, US Geological Survey, and US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. If you are curious as to what the latest alerts are, navigate here to see areas under watch around the US. As you can see, the rest of the world has been left out. But after Google adds more services from other countries, it will easily populate imminent disasters around the globe.

It seems natural to add these warnings to Google Maps, and hopefully it sees mobile devices soon as well. It could prove to be very useful on long trips to avoid entering some nasty weather. You will likely start seeing alerts for your immediate area when using their other services like standard Google Web Search too. After all, who wouldn’t want to know of about an impending disaster before it actually happens?

Something makes you feel justified of a Porsche’s hefty pricetag when window shopping at your local dealership. But does this same mentality persist when viewing their new Porsche Design P’9981 BlackBerry smartphone? The device is set at $2,350, just enough to make a few jaws drop. We had recently seen it clear the FCC earlier with an estimated amount of $2,000, but it has clearly broken that barrier. It’s hard to believe the P’9981 doesn’t have decent hardware specifications.

We’re used to seeing larger displays as in the Galaxy S II or iPhone 4S when it comes to the latest and greatest. But the Porsche Design, like the other BlackBerry QWERTYs out there, offers a 2.8″ touch screen with a 640×480 resolution. If you were to spend $2,400 on a smartphone, wouldn’t it make sense to ensure it has a decent camera? Its 5MP rear shooter most definitely can’t compete with a few others currently in production. People have even started bragging about a possible 12MP camera included in the Galaxy S III.

So what it boils down to is brand name. After all, someone that plans on purchasing a smartphone at such a price isn’t in it for the specs, but rather its uniqueness. It’s bound to turn some heads with the built-in leather battery cover and custom theme. The Porsche Design P’9981 is only available in the UK and Middle East for the time being, but should make its way to the US soon enough.

A jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 has just been released by the “Dev Dream Team” just moments ago. Apparently, cracking the A5 was “Not exactly a walk in the park” according to the entire team. The jailbreak is termed GreenPois0n Absinthe and is now available for download on Mac OS X alone. And forget the tethered jailbreak – untethered is where it’s at!

Users must be on iOS 5.0.1 or this WILL NOT WORK. And for the record – if you update to iOS 5.0.2 when it comes out, you’ll completely lose the jailbreak. Lets thank posixninja, pod2g, and nikias for all their hard work.

They stressed multiple times how difficult exploiting the Apple A5 actually was, so its probably impossible to even count the amount of hours they have spent prior to this public release.

As the name suggests, InAir is streamed over Wi-Fi via AirPlay for all iOS devices and computers through iTunes. The speakers have an excellent range across the board, even on the noisy showroom floor. It’s made out of brushed metal with plastic covering the sides. The build quality looked very decent, but couldn’t compare to the LIVE 5000 version.

The LIVE 5000 looks very similar, but delivers an entirely different experience. Different doesn’t always mean better, but in this case it does. The LIVE doesn’t limit its user to a single platform, as it supports iOS, Android, and over PC/Mac via their desktop LIVE controller. It also features streaming services such as Pandora, SiriusXM, TuneIn, and Rhapsody. They expect even more streaming applications available before launch.

We should see both speakers just before summer, but hopefully we’ll get to review one before then. They sounded great and the applications had fluid user interfaces.

The first of which is voice-activated navigation. It works as it should, and unlike Google services, voice control doesn’t require internet access. This makes it much more responsive, an almost essential quality while on the road.

Also new is their extremely detailed 3D rendered building view. Taking two fingers and expanding them across the screen will zoom you in far enough to take advantage of it. It is also possible to pan 360 degrees around the 3D buildings by touching the screen simultaneously with two fingers, and turning them at the same time. The same features are included in Google Maps, but again – the Garmin doesn’t need the internet to render a single thing.

Like other LMT models, the 3590 is Bluetooth hands-free calling compatible, and compatible with their Smartphone Link application for Android. This isn’t new, but Smartphone Link gives users access to Garmin Live Services. This can help display live traffic, the weather, SMS messages, fuel prices, and even alert you when you’re approaching a red-light (Europe only).

The InSound noise-cancellation headphones were on display at CES: ShowStoppers 2012, and we took them home with us to put them to the test. After opening the protective case, it contained the headset, two audio cables (one red, one black), and an in flight adapter. Unlike conventional headphones, they require two AAA batteries to operate – noise-cancellation engaged or not. After installing the batteries, I tested to see how effective the noise-cancellation setting actually were.

To engage noise-cancellation, just flip the switch to ‘On’ and roll the wheel located on the base of the right earmuff. You will hear a faint hum when noise-cancellation is working and no audio is present. The InSound headphones proved to play great bass notes, but the vocals and mid-range were slightly thin. However, noise-cancellation worked properly across the board. Blues and jazz sounded excellent when noise-cancellation was engaged.

The InSound headphones are not currently available for purchase, but if priced properly they will be a smart buy. Those further interested should know the sound quality and craftsmanship is not comparable to top tier’s like Custom Studio Beats by Dr. Dre. However, the InSound portable form factor will make these an excellent choice for those that want to travel.

Today we saw some amazing advancements in temperature sensor technology by Texas Instruments. The TMP006 is the first single-chip passive infrared temperature sensor to date, and is extremely smaller than any currently available. It can easily be incorporated into smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and countless other mobile devices. More accurate temperature readings through using the TMP006 will allow manufacturers to optimize system performance.

See that little square dot? That’s TI’s next generation temperature sensor, sitting next to the old model and the CES award it won the company.

But what really stands out in the TMP006 chip, is its ability to measure temperature outside the device. This is a first for mobile devices, and is will undoubtedly be included in future smartphones and tablets. The sensor was extremely sensitive; even when holding your hand close to it a change in temperature was noticed and calculated. It even picked up a temperature change when aiming it towards a window 8 feet away.

The sensors are extremely small at 1.6mm x 1.6mm, so they won’t bulk up any device that adopts the technology. The IR signal can easily pass through practically any plastic, so there are very few obstacles manufacturers will have to cross. A single TMP006 chip is now available for $1.50 each, in 1,000 unit quantities; the perfect price for kickstarting the chip into mass production.

Synology has added many new features and refreshed the user interface in their DiskStation Manager 4.0. When loaded up, there is a new pane that shows the health of your system, a resource monitor, recent logs, and cloud storage available. The health of your system is maintained by their new integrated virus protection. The service is updated by Clam AntiVirus but maintained by Synology.

Another added feature is how DiskStation saves previous versions of all files to prevent the loss of any previously stored information. Within the Control Panel, notifications can now contact owners via email, SMS, mobile, MSN, and even Skype. Some notifications include when your CPU fan stops/resumes, eSATA disk is full, disk I/O errors, and improper shutdowns. All important faults that any business owner would like to know about as soon as they occur.

The beauty of DiskStation is monthly fees are eliminated because once you purchase the product, you have easily accessible cloud storage that is truly yours. Once uploaded content content is accessible from other computers in an instant. It is a large step up from popular programs such as DropBox and Box.net.

There’s Google TV, Apple TV, and now Canonical is working to bring us Ubuntu TV. Throughout the past couple months they’ve built a limited, skinned version of Ubuntu to the television. Like Google TV, it’s built into the hardware. Updates can still be integrated over WiFi, and the TV connection will eventually offer a ‘shared-screen’ experience to iOS, Android, and Ubuntu devices.

The unit at their booth in CES was very fluid when panning from selection to selection. The TV was able to stream video content, music, and even had a few applications were installed such as YouTube for easy access. Canonical has been known for releasing software that is polished upon release, so it’s hard to tell when we’ll actually see Ubuntu TV on the market.

It will also offer the ability to search, watch, record, and play through TV. They are currently working with multiple manufacturers for a release in the near future, and it seems we’ll end up waiting more on the them than Ubuntu developers. Their devs are quick to the punch and you can bet they want to see their platform expanded to this new market as soon as possible.

Cygnett is known for constructing well built, quality cases for phones and tablets. Tonight, Creative Director Sophie Swann gave us an excellent description for some of their most popular models. Near the end, she also introduced us to their Icon Art series by artist Nathan Jurevicius.

Each Cygnett case comes with a complementary screen protector to make sure your precious devices don’t end up with any scratches. The first case presented was the WorkMate Pro for the Galaxy S II. The same case has been available for iPhone for some time, and they hope to expand to many more Android devices. The WorkMate Pro is shock-resistant, extra-protective, and made of dual materials.

Next up was the Frost model. It has a very smooth matte finish, and protects your device while still keeping it very slim. The Crystal variant was very similar to the Frost, but completely transparent. But the most interesting of them all was their Icon Art series. Artist Nathan Jurevicius created the them for the iPhone 4S, and they come in three different designs: Dr. Maybe’s Underwater House, Hootsville, and Chihoohoo’s Tea Party. Sophie wrapped up with an introduction to their latest InSound noise-cancellation headphones. After slipping them on, they were extremely comfortable and really worked well.

To apply the grip pad, simply peel off the sticker from the back and apply secure it on the rear of your tablet or phone. It is made of 100% polyurethane and each box contains one pad and a set of instructions for installation. The grip pad presented to us was for large tablets and measured 8.25 x 3.75 inches – perfect for your Apple iPad 2.

If Wrapsol could somehow add their technology built-in to phones and tablets, I presume it would do fairly well. With how easy screens crack when dropped, it would help prevent many of the accidents by providing an extra grip. Wrapsol also produces thin films to protect your device from getting scratched. Most of their products are available at Staples, but they are always in stock over at Wrapsol’s official site.

Kogeto had previously released the iCONIC for the iPhone 4 and 4S in the middle of 2011, but now they are expanding their 360 panoramic video to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. This version is just like the original model, except in the way it attaches to the device. After talking with their representatives, they haven’t quite decided on the best way to fasten it onto the phone.

There are currently three different styles they are testing – one was built into the a case, the other slides over the rear, and my favorite is actually a thick rubber band that stretches over the whole device. As you can see, the rubber band is a solid color. They are considering making the rubber band transparent so it’s possible still view the band-covered area of the screen.

The band will also be easier to produce universally among the hundreds of Android smartphones. They plan on delivering the iCONIC to select Android devices – but why not include them all? The pictures can also be uploaded to Facebook, Twiiter and email just like the iPhone version. Again, nothing much has changed except offering their hardware to a huge new market.

SafePlug offers a way to remotely access the outlets in your home. The SafePlug outlet can be mounted like a normal outlet, or just plug into an existing one. Through an included program, owners will be able to see precisely how much power is used – and from what is using it. Paired with the Nest home thermostat monitoring system, this could really help save some money.

The ability to toggle devices or appliances remotely is a great feature for people that travel often, or even live in multiple homes. The software will can also tell what is plugged into the outlet. Through an ID chip placed over the head of the plug, anything can be named/configured. This will help you differentiate between multiple appliances.

When it comes down to it, the SafePlug could really protect your household. There have been countless times when a severe thunderstorm was passing over my house and there wasn’t a way to unplug my desktop computer. Installation is extremely easy, and their general ‘Bedroom Kit’ retails for $189.95.

The Sony XPERIA S is the second smartphone released by the manufacture, alongside the XPERIA Ion LTE. Though this version doesn’t have 4G LTE, it takes advantage of HSPA+ for up to 21MBps speeds. The most noticeable difference of the XPERIA S was how much thinner it was than the Ion, and of course that see-through glow along the bottom of the casing.

As for specs, you’ll find a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 32GB of internal storage, HDMI out, NFC (Near Field Communication), and support for 1080p HD video. The 4.3 inch display has a stunning 1280 x 720 HD resolution that looked great. It also sports a 12MP rear facing camera and 1.3MP front shooter.

It’s too bad the XPERIA S isn’t launching in the US, I would almost rather see it than the Ion LTE. Both phones were running Android 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) and have the latest version of their ‘Timescape’ UI. It is also said both should see Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) sometime in Q2. Also, don’t forget to check out our hands-on with the Ion LTE from earlier.

This isn’t Sony’s first watch running Android OS, and it definitely shows it. There are many improvements in Sony’s XPERIA SmartWarch over the former Sony LiveView – most noticeably the fully featured touchscreen display. The LiveView had side gestures instead. The SmartWatch has retained the underneath clip, and still connects syncs with your phone through Bluetooth.

The touchscreen was very fluid, and the watch is estimated to get 2-4 days of battery life on a single charge. Running Android, one would expect fast battery drain, but once the SmartWatch becomes inactive – the screen turns off. When you where a watch, don’t you expect the time to show as long as you’re wearing it? Having to press a button to wake the SmartWatch may prove to be a reason why watch pioneers don’t convert.

Those of you interested in the watch will be able to buy it for $149.99 near the end of Q1. The strongest feature going for the SmartWatch is its ability to access Android Market apps. The ability to read texts, Twitter, and Facebook alerts pushed from your phone have all carried over from the LiveView and are still features available on the SmartWatch. We’ll have to find out what version of Android is on it after its official release.

Unlike the Huawei Ascend P LTE, the Ascend P1 doesn’t sport 4G LTE capabilities or an extended screen absent of softkeys. However, the 4.3″ screen on the P1 is truly dedicated to your tasks. Even though it doesn’t rock LTE, it is capable of HSPA+ speeds of up to 21Mbps – which is still good.

Both new Ascend models were running the same version of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and had the same bugs. It lagged at times, and you could really tell it wasn’t fit to ship quite yet. The P1 is very thin at 7.69mm and has a full-body plastic casing. It was no where near the build quality of the P LTE.

Other specs include a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, and a microSD slot capable of holding 64GB. It also has an 8MP rear camera and dual LED flash. No front facing camera included. And unlike the P LTE’s 2000mAh battery, this phone comes with a 1650mAh. For such a decently sized screen, a larger battery would have been expected.

We were here at the Huawei booth and noticed the latest version of their Ascend line of phones. The Ascend P LTE looks strikingly similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and even runs an untouched version of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The OS was still pretty buggy, but it was definitely not a letdown.

This early in the game, it’s expected the OS would have these bugs. The main innovation here is expanding the screen size by leaving out the capacitive buttons (again, like the Galaxy Nexus). It has a plastic battery cover, but trimmed in rubber. It definitely makes the phone feel like it won’t slip out of your hand.

This version of the Ascend has LTE built in, but no word on which carrier it might be coming to. We know it won’t launch on Verizon, because CDMA bands are completely absent – so AT&T seems like the logical choice in the US. Detailed specifications include a 4.3″ qHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960×540, 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8960 processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB onboard storage, and capable of handling a 64GB MicroSD card. It also sports 8MP rear and 1.3MP front facing cameras.

Instead of leaving a message on the counter for a friend or family member, those with a Play can just quickly record themselves for video playback later. The Play has a magnetic black panel, so it can easily attach to your refrigerator.

As you can see it’s quite tiny, and has a 2.4″ LCD display with a resolution of 320×240. It has great battery life as well, with 40 days of standby time and three hours of play/record time you won’t have to work about power management as often. Oddly, you can’t charge the Play. Instead, it runs off of three AAA batteries.

The total record time is 180 seconds – and it fits into the 256mb internal memory. The idea is very good, but there are a few features I would have liked to see included. The first being a Li-ion battery; this day and age it would have been easy to fit one in there – and would help reduce battery cost. The second feature would have to be expandable memory via micro-SD card. It is great to have multiple short clips on the Play, but I foresee many will save messages for viewing long term – thus taking up too much space and time.

Unlike other wireless gaming controllers, Gametel includes a universal built-in dock for any smartphone. The controller is compatible with tablets as well – but you can’t dock it in. Sometimes it’s not practical to play some of the more intense games on iOS, Android, or PC with a touchscreen, and a D-Pad with buttons can make a world of difference.

After a hands-on with the peripheral, it seems very well built and I honestly wanted to walk out with one. Playing Modern Combat 3 on my phone would be so much better with a controller. They didn’t know if it was directly compatible with MC3, but gave us a list of many other popular titles, such as: Asphalt 5 HD, No Gravity, Silverfish, Zenonia, and 150+ more.

And just like many of the other wireless controllers already available, you can undock your device from the controller, hook it up via HDMI to your TV, and play games with a truly console-like feel. The only thing missing is a pair of built-in quality joysticks. Expect the controller to retail for approximately $60, and hit shelves before April of this year.

The exterior muffs have touch sensitive panels to help regulate sound volume and power. It is also said to have an easy connection through NFC (Near Field Communication). Whether this is to provide better stereo quality sound or to just connect to your device – no other headphones are currently equipped with NFC.

Bluetooth audio streaming is also available, and will likely be the primary wireless connection. Though, a 3.5mm analogue line-in is available. Automatic sound activation through a built in motion detection sensor is also obvious innovation from a pair of headphones. Though they haven’t officially priced the ZIK, its sound quality was superb – and could easily retail for $399.

The Sherpa 50 by Goal ZERO offers a way to power all of you peripherals from one lightweight portable hub. It only weighs in at 0.9 lbs – half the weight of the previous model. It has a 50 watt power capacity, and is obviously small enough to slip into your backpack or handbag.

The power port doesn’t just offer AC and DC outputs, but also USB and multiple laptop charging ports. But the main feature of the Sherpa 50 is the ability to of charging the pack via the solar panel. It only takes 5-10 hours to charge through the solar panel, but if time is of the essence you can plug it in and reach maximum capacity within 2-3 hours.

To give you an idea of how much longer the pack will give your devices – it will give your iPad or tablet device an extra two hours of entertainment. For a smart phone, it should boost your battery for 10 extra hours, and 25 for an iPod. It will be available in June for $249.99, and other products by Goal ZERO will unveil later in the year.

Earlier Canon officially confirmed the PowerShot G1 X, and here at Pepcom: Digital Experience we were able to get hands-on. It compared to previous models in the G series, the G1 X is a bit larger and has a very decent compact-fixed lens. With its 14.3 megapixel CMOS sensor it would be perfect for any intermediate level photographer.

Practically all of the settings for previous G series cameras are still available on the G1 X, so those looking to upgrade shouldn’t be too unfamiliar with it. But the only real reason to upgrade would be for the 4x optical zoom and the wide-angle 28mm lens. And of course, the improved sensor.

It’s hard to get past the $800 price tag, but it offers a pivotable viewing touchscreen that many other cameras lack. It takes full HD 1080p video and has a built in face detection system. The shooter should be available in February, and an exact date hasn’t quite been announced.

Liquid Image has developed a new line of sport cams built into their APEX HD and SUMMIT series of skimasks. All are capable of taking HD video, and most are able to shoot in 1080p. The only ones that cant are the lower tier in the SUMMIT series. Available only to the APEX HD series is live WiFi streaming from your mask to a smartphone, tablet or computer.

The come equipped with 1200mAh Li-ion batteries, so don’t forget to charge up before you hit the slopes. The APEX masks also have the ability to home in on your location via GPS, so you (and whoever is watching your stream) will be able to log your exact location through the entire run. Next up is the EGO HD – a camera that can clip onto your bike, surfboard, kayak or that one time you decide to go skydiving.

The EGO HD is equipped with a water proof housing and also has the ability to stream live video over WiFi. Those of you wondering how to consistently keep up a WiFi connection while out and about could always carry your hotspot with you. This way nothing slows you down, and it would be possible to travel longer distances keeping up a live stream.

It essentially restores the proper resolution for a low quality video to help make it look great on a TV with such a high pixel density. You may not gather it from the press shot above, but the television shown is making use of the X-Reality technology from a tiny YouTube video with low resolution.

Hopefully we see technology like this implemented into other manufacturers as well. it seems almost mandatory at this point, and would greatly help re-pixelate poor HDMI transfers. To some extent, we could save bandwidth by playing lower quality videos, but Sony’s television would just make up for it with their X-Reality Pro software.

Intel seemed most impressed at how compact the new Ultrabooks are compared to the previous models. Closed, the original Ultrabook was 1.26 inches thick, whereas the new generation will only come out to 17.8 millimeters. The barebones/transparent view below shows how the all the hardware has slimmed down.

The solid state drive is thinner, the LED backlit display is 2 millimeters more compact, and they’ve managed to integrate the CPU straight into the board to shave off excess thickness. Previously, Ultrabook were only available at 13″, now they plan on expanding to 14″ and 15″ models for the future. Again, we should start to see mass production of these in April.

Intel is setting manufacturers up to compete with Apple’s MacBook Air, and so far with flying colors. They want the average person to enjoy the Ultrabook experience. For this reason, they will make it economically feasible to purchase one without completely emptying your savings. The first generation was going for $999, and they specifically said it would be cheaper. However, they didn’t give an exact price – lets hope it’s in the $500 range.

There are 75+ designs of the Ultrabook already, and now Intel is working with manufacturers to present multiple hybrid/touch designs. From the demonstration, the touchscreens within the Intel were extremely fluid – and didn’t skip a beat. We’ve all been waiting for manufacturers to incorporate touchscreen technology into their hardware, and the unveiling wasn’t too surprising.

Prior to the event, they let random individuals try out the touchscreen technology and even took a few testimonials. One person, Veronica, stated “I like it better… It’s more fun, it’s a new thing. It’s also easier, more immediate, modern… Super fast”. The important change will obviously be ‘speed to action’. Maneuvering to do some things over a touchscreen is just easier, so it’s really only going to improve the user’s experience.

Next up, they described users will be able to vocally control their laptops at very quick rates. The speech activation doesn’t go through the cloud like most other voice recognition clients – it is built right into the device. Even with an accent, you can teach it to understand you. It will learn your voice over time and can be set to talk back to you. Siri was only the beginning.

I’m sure there are better gadgets for spying on your next door neighbor, but they probably aren’t as fun to use or play with as the Wi-Spi video surveillance vehicles. InteractiveToy has constructed both the Wi-Spi helicopter and Wi-Spi Intruder. The Intruder is a basic remote control car with a video camera built into the grill.

Sound can also be recorded alongside video on the Intruder. The helicopter doesn’t record sound – but it allows the taking of quick aerial snapshots. The actual controller is your iPhone or Android device, so once the Wi-Spi application is installed you’re good to go. They can both upload their captures instantly to Facebook, YoutTube, or E-Mail.

Both models will be available Fall 2012 at most major and electronic retailers. We couldn’t get a demo of the units, but from the photos they look pretty sleek. The helicopter will retail at $119.99 and Intruder at $99.99.

Nest is a thermostat management system that allows you to find out the temperature that best suits your lifestyle – and set it there. This reduces the uniform cooling and heating that we normally do to reach a more desirable temperature. It connects via WiFi so you can also control the temperature from your computer, smartphone, or tablet. Imagine locking up your house, going on vacation, and forgetting to adjust your air condition levels. With Nest, you can just pull up the application on your cellphone adjust it instantly.

When the air is blowing cold the display turns blue – and when the heat turns on the display turns orange. It also tells you the approximate time until your desired temperature is reached. But how do you know when you’re saving energy (and money)? A tiny picture of a leaf at the bottom of the dial appears when you are using less energy.

The Nest isn’t limited to one home, actually – it can be controlled in multiple homes at once. Just tie them to the same account within the application and change the temperature of multiple thermostats at once. You won’t have to worry about updating it either – as it does it on its own through the linked WiFi connection.

SolarFocus has released the first solar-charged cover for the Kindle e-Reader. As if your Kindle didn’t already have great battery life, they’ve gone ahead and integrated a 1500mAh battery into the case. There is also an LED light that pops out once a button is pressed on the cover.

Usually, solar panels charge solely off of outdoor sunlight, but the advanced solar technology built into this cover will charge your battery indoors as well. The cover is available with or without the solar charging option – but without the solar capabilities, this cover is just like many others. It’s only an extra $20 for the solar option, so it will be money well spent.

They claim it will triple your reading time, and could even supply up to 3 months or more of reading time on a single charge. Support for more tablets will be key for SolarFocus. I know some Android tablets that could sure use a boost in battery life, so this technology may benefit them even more.

A document was found from a hacking group known as ‘The Lords of Dharmaraja’ that could compromise important information of RINOA SUR(RIM, NOKIA, and Apple). An image of the document describes RINOA SUR had provided the Indian military with source code information of many software companies. And apparently, RINOA was providing backdoor access for the ability to operate within India.

Symantec was also said to have source information leaked, but they confirmed that the info was from code used in much older versions of their software. Though they say that branch has been discontinued, hopefully they patch any vulnerable holes; everyone doesn’t have the latest Norton AV software.

The worst part of all this is that the hackers have access to the Indian Military’s Intelligence servers. We’ll see where it goes from here – and what statements the India’s military has to say.

Contact microphones turn vibrations into electrical signals, and can then be transcoded into sound waves. This is precisely what the Mogees project does, and it does it well. The gadget can stick to any surface and turn it into your musical playground. There are multiple settings to help produce one’s desired sound, but the real key resides in the gestures.

Using gestures is where the more unique sounds are discovered, and from the clip below they work flawlessly. Sliding, scratching, tapping and countless other gestures make this little device desirable for anyone. And to be honest, it would make quite an impression in public.

If you were hoping to slip one of these gadgets under your teacher’s desk at school, then you might want to think up another prank – because the Mogees project isn’t commercially available. Though, I know a number of people that would pay good money for a little device like this, so we could see a similar product on the market in due time. Until then, you’ll just have to stick to playing music the old fashioned way – on your instruments.

Do you remember when owning a dual-core device actually meant something? Well that time is approaching its end, because ZiiLabs recently unveiled a processor with – get this – 100 cores. Yeah, the ASUS Transformer Prime touts a quad-core Kal-El processor, but ZiiLabs is really changing the game.

It’s set up much like a quad-core chip, but the ZMS-40 adds 96 “StemCell Media Processing” cores that help out the four included ARM Cortex A9 cores. It is not only supposed to reduce battery consumption by half, ZiiLabs claim it will also manage “twice the peak media performance”. When I play graphic intensive games or watch movies on my tablet, the battery drains faster than I can keep up. If the ZMS-40 can remedy that apparent problem – then I hope it makes its way into devices soon.

We may actually see a few tablets with the ZMS-40 chip incorporated at CES next week. If so, we’ll be the first to let you know how it stacks up to the rest. But until then, we’ll leave you with the official press release:

It’s one thing to walk into a supermarket and have the cashier scan your iPhone or iPad for a coupon – but having a border patrol officer scan an electronic passport photo off an iPad is just too much. And apparently, federal critics would have to agree. The man, Martin Reisch, simply had his iPad scanned and was let into the country.

MP Brian Masse stated later, that a digital copy of one’s passport “is not a secure document”. And rightfully, it shouldn’t be. There is already enough illegal forgery present within society, and allowing digital proof of identity can only make matters worse. I’m sure even a few of you could Photoshop your information into another’s digital passport. Not to say you would – but it’s easily possible.

Of course, adding safety features to digital processing of information like one’s passport would likely work great. Implementing security measures is important in this case, and accessing this information digitally would benefit us all greatly. No need to worry about your passport getting stolen – just make sure you’ve got the “death grip” on that mobile device of yours.

Accessory Workshop’s products have been on the market, but what stood out above the rest was their tyPad (Generation II) bluetooth keyboard. It includes a substantial leather casing for both the keyboard and your iPad. What’s great is how handy we found it to be after a thorough testing; lets just say that typing up lecture notes is now a feasible task on the iPad.

Accurately typing on the iPad over time can be accomplished, but accuracy and speed are much easier to attain using their keyboard. Unfortunately, the tyPad is a bit heavy and thicker than we had expected, but then again the addition of a keyboard will do that. What really made us feel like this product was set apart from the rest was the quality put towards its leather casing. When the iPad was first released I couldn’t seem to edge away from the original iPad case. The tyPad feels great and we trust the protection is top notch. Maybe not as protective as their tyPillow, … but certainly more portable!

We didn’t go as far as testing the spill-resistance, but obviously if a spill were to occur on the keyboard, it wouldn’t damage your iPad in any way as it is essentially connected via Bluetooth. As stated in our glimpse from CES ShowStoppers, the tyPad can be purchased for $99.99 here.

This is the first one ever made for the iPod and is completely wireless; just download the application from the app store and plug the dongle into the iPod.

It will support models iPod Touch models 2nd Generation and above, iPhone 3G/3GS/4, and the iPad. The dongle requires a USB micro AB for recharging and should operate for ~2.5 hours until a needed recharge. Because of the receiver has its own battery, it won’t leech all the power out of your portable device. The Tivizen dongle will be available for $99 within the next few months.

Energizer has released a portable travel kit that finally works with your iPod Touch or iPhone; and after testing it out we can say it is extremely handy. To charge the actual batter pack you can either use an AC wall outlet or fix on the DC attachment for your automobile.

This kit also charges phones via their micro and mini USB ports. The “energi to go” battery pack will give around 14 hours of extra talk time on your device and should give you enough time to find a power outlet to charge up your device. Another useful feature is a LED indicator built-in to let its user know when the external pack is almost out of juice.
