Audi TTS autonomous racecar climbs Pikes Peak sans driver

Cars that drive themselves are really cool and the area is a hot bed for research for all sorts of uses. The military likes the though is autonomous vehicles since they could move supplies without putting soldiers in harm's way. Audi has announced that its cool looking TTS autonomous vehicle has participated in the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

If you have never seen this event, it's really cool. Racecars storm up the massive Pikes Peak hill to see who is the fastest on narrow roads that sometimes sit on the side of a cliff with huge drops to a crushing death if the turn is missed.

The Audi autonomous vehicle made it to the top of the track without a driver in a time of 27 minutes. That sounds like a long time, but human drivers are expected to do it in around 17 minutes. The course is 12.42 miles long and the Audi hit a top speed of 47 mph during the run.
