Something that a great many people have been pushing for is what’s called “naked DSL.” No, it doesn’t have anything to do with porn (though it can be used to download it if you so desire), rather it is the offering of DSL internet without the need to purchase a landline phone. AT&T will finally be offering this by the end of the year.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re not exactly doing it out of the kindness of their heart. They were actually ordered to do it by the FCC as a part of their deal to purchase BellSouth.

AT&T has officially stated that the service will be launched by the end of the year. There is still some speculation as to what packages will be available to consumers. The court order only said they had to offer it, nothing was said about how fast it had to be. Don’t be surprised if they only offer 768k down.

I had AT&T DSL and it was AWFUL. I used to try to upload our shows each week (The Tuesday Night Tech Podcast) and I couldn’t do it most of the time. Switched to Road Runner, now all is well and you should stay away from DSL.

Well for next time if you need help with DSL, please give me a holler. Really, I don’t mind working on these things, and of all things I am in the U.S. (STL to be exact)!

The link above should give you enough to contact me, or if you have an dslreports.com ID you can post directly here: http://www.dslreports.com/foru.....er=noreply

hit the “new topic” button and post away.

    Thanks
    David
