This makes sense from a bandwidth, cell tower density, service improvement, and the myriad of other technical reasons perspective.

It royally sucks from the customer (t-mobile) perspective.

While my data speeds and calls will be more reliable, gone will be my lower prices, the looking the other way for moderate tethering, commitment to android with generally easy to hack phones, and all the customer focus that t-mobile provides in an effort to get and keep customers.

This has a year before it gets final approval or not, and depending on how this is all handled, I may go to sprint. If the Gov makes them maintain t-mobile as a separate subsidiarity to at&t, it may not be too bad though.

This is the absolute END of the GSM, sim free, choose your own adventure mobile regime. The unlocked phone has so little purpose now it ain’t funny.

I don’t even know what else, other than that it is the end of my interest in mobile phones, and feels like armaggedon.

lets see…at&t will start jacking up t-mo’s prices, cut unlimited data or no contract option…and lock up Android market like att’s own (why would at&t feel the need to prevent users from downloading non-Market third-party apps, which none of the other carriers do, is baffling). so yeah, iphone users are the biggest beneficiaries because att will probably give T-mo the same plans like it always has been.

Ha… most believe this to be a bad thing for Google, Android, and their handset makers such as Motorola and HTC. (less competition, more control over poor old fragmented Android, rising prices…)

Guess the pink T-Mobile chick just had the iPhone dude jump on her back… that should make for a more interesting commercial.

I think iPhone users will be the biggest beneficiaries of this move.
