i noticed it too plus a new cell site in San Francisco Bay Area where I live. It seems like the pranksters at ATT, who wanted to see if they can get away with last place service while laughing at the hostaged iPhone 3G contract customers, have had a change of heart.
More plausible is that ATT understands that its stranglehold on the fastest iPhone HSPA+ will dissolve the moment an LTE iPhone come sout for Verizon with 100x superiorand reliable CDMA voice and LTE speeds for data in more markets.
AtT is finally facing the music and is playing by the rules of comoetetion through service and value- not handset exclusivity.
