The problem with this is that since the network towers would be shared between the companies, there would be a loss of bandwidth overall. T-Mobile's 4g is faster than AT&T's because of not having as high of loads on the towers, once the companies interchange towers, t-mobile customers could see a drop in speed.

The only problem I see with this is that T-Mobile will likely have to convert there 3G service to the same frequency as AT&T because they are not the same frequencies. That is why you can only get EDGE if you bring an IPhone to T-Mobile

Sharing resources will make for strange bedfellows. I like the term AT&T-Mobile. It will be great if we can finally get the iPhone and the iPad on T-Mo by sharing bandwidth with AT&T. I will also bet that it will be a back door technique of selling T-Mobile to AT&T. As long as T-Mo makes money, no sale. As soon as it starts losing money, sale on. All AT&T wants it the bandwidth and frequency that T-Mo outbid them for a few years back. As soon as they get that frequency for THEIR customers, bye-bye T-Mo. I have already explored my options as my contract is up very soon. Verizon is about $25. more a month and Sprint is about the same (+ or - $10.) My wife says Sprint is for people who can't pay their bills (I have never heard this anywhere). Verizon gives great phone service but have a tendency to add on small charges that you never approved (that's why we left them back in 2000). Decisions, decisions what will we do? My wife does not care as long as it can make calls, my daughter wants the iPhone plus I think the Droid Razr and the Galaxy S II are the Android answer to the iPhone. Here's hoping Magenta gets their act together, I really don't want to go to the death star or big red or yellow wing. Why can't we all just get along???

I hope they do... This is the solution I thought would be the best for customers. Even without the "buyout" I wanted this to happen.

Sharing frequencies and towers openly. (or at least using the same/similar frequencies for the same things) No more att compatible phone vs tmobile compatible. Optimize which frequencies are used for what purpose. (one upshot, no more phone calls using the higher freq that tmobile uses for voice that can't reach into large buildings, use it for data or something) Using att LTE and tmobile 4G tech would be a great combo.
