Its news like this that make me like apple and they way they do business. apple will NOT do what carriers tell them to do, it the other way around.

somehow I think that this will only effect Android apps. dislike them as much as I do, apple would not tolerate this kind of shit.

This is presented as a boon for customers (get free data!) but in fact it is basically what the net-neutrality zealots have been warning against. Two classes of apps and content, one in a preferred class because the developer is paying the carrier. Making it harder for individuals and small businesses to compete - not to mention disadvantaging the web itself vs apps.

interesting idea... I don't know if I really see it catching on though. maybe for a few games since data use is high, the devs might be inclined to offer this.

of course you'd see the app price jacked up accordingly, so you'd end up paying either way.

Unfortunately, unlimited data only lasts as long as the network can hold up. Until capacity is greatly improved, limitations will end up being imposed. AT&T didn't factor this in when they were the sole iPhone carrier, and when the smartphone revolution started happening, they were quickly overwhelmed. I had a 12-year old grandfathered $20/mo data plan that was pulled from me without my consent (there were no limitations on bandwidth, tethering, etc), because they determined that I was using a smartphone (never purchased a subsidized phone, btw), and according to "new" terms, smartphones were not compatible with my existing plan.

This has to be the worst idea I've heard since netflix tried to split. Developers that are dumb enough to try this are just going to either switch to subscription fees instead of flat purchase or charge more for subscriptions. Either way the customer is going to be paying for the data plans.
