850,000 Android phones are turned up every day. I had a Palm I really liked and now I have an Android phone.

The stupid comments about "My friend has an Android and it doesn't work", is just childish and most likely a lie. First off, if it doesn't work, get one that does. 850,000 a day. Some of them MUST be working, you think? Live and let live. If you want to buy a "smart" phone that has "problems" with data -- knock yourself out. There giving them out free with a two year contract, since they don't work. So at least it's a pretty rock.

You misunderstand. A game is intensive because of how the developers design it. If it is a graphics rich game with a lot going on while your playing, naturally it will require more cpu power to operate. Yes having a light OS helps but if you don't have the specs to power it, well, you don't have the specs to power it. This person I replied to apparently doesn't believe that dual cores are necessary in smart phones these days. There are other advantages to it besides power. For example, take my phone, the Galaxy Note. If it had windows mobile on it and a single core processor, how efficiently to you think it would run? It wouldn't. It would be unbearable. More screen size, more pixels requires more cpu and gpu power to run. A single core wouldn't be able to handle it. Not to mention multitasking. No mobile OS can do true multitasking except android, in part to the OS itself, but also because of hardware limitations. Whether people like to admit it or not, there is a reason phones have dual core processors.

That would explain why your screen is so clear. The skyrocket is a 4.5" screen an yours is a 4.3. Smaller screen but you have the same resolution. Yeah I suppose that's one of the reasons I like having a 720p display, aside from the obvious lol. Pictures and video all look amazing. I'd like to pick up a windows mobile phone just to play with. Maybe I'll pick up a Lumia unlocked later on. Either that or an HTC Titan. That's a sweet windows phone.

Hardware intensive games is a misnomer... you assume a game can't be intensive without multiple cores when in reality it also has a dependency on the operating system and how it allocates resources. A bloated OS with multiple cores will not necessarily out perform a single core mobile system.

oh, the display ... well, the display resolution for the skyrocket is the same as the lumia 900 = 800x480. there are no phones available, as far as i know, with 1080p res = 1920x1080. there are "hd" amoled screens out there with a res of 1280x800 (same as 720p). anyway, i tried to compare phones in same class/res and, to me, clearblack looks a lot better than the xxx-amoled that samsung creates and it beats everything if you're using your phone outdoors.

now, on to camera res ... well, this is not related to display res -- i.e. you might be able to shoot 1080p, but you'll only be able to view it natively on a 1080p display (your tv/pc). for instance, the iphone 4s screen is the same as the 4, but they updated the camera hardware and included one that can record 1080p. i think most people that want to do video from their phone end up getting it onto a pc where they can burn it to a dvd or stream to a 1080p display.

yea, i'm happy with my lumia 900 because it's exactly what i want in a smartphone right now.

No I was referring to the display. I could live with 720p video shooting. The display is the biggest factor to me. Since it was a skyrocket, you didn't compare the Lumia to a HD display. I went from Retina to a true HD display and there's nothing like it. Especially with an amoled panel. Any who, you like the Lumia because it suits your needs. I can't knock you for that. At least your not being a snob about your phone choice like other people.

it was the skyrocket. i didn't do a video recording comparison, but i take it from your response that this is "killer feature" for you, in which case, this phone or any other that shoots 720p won't do.

WP7 is the first smart phone to finally answer the background task issues that all other smartpones have. it truly is the first 100% cloud driven device. an example.. on any other smart phone if you have a chat app, that app will run in the background listening for a new chat. on wp7 when you leave the app it tombstones. pretty much removes itself from running memory. then if you receive a new message the chat software will push a notification which will wake the app up. its brilliant!
i didn't say i wasn't interested in specs, rather they only make sense when they contribute to the overall user experience. i dont want to have 1080p recording at the expense of battery life, but then again, any video recording is a battery killer ... i keep mine short and sweet. apple just released a 1080p phone (4s) and i haven't heard a lot of complaints about the video quality on the previous iphone 4. if it's good enough for broadcast tv (720p .. espn hi-def for ex), it's pretty good to me, but then again, you might be a video professional ... i don't know. jobs also said that droid is a terrible ripoff of ios didn't he ? he also said that one of the most horrid things he saw are those ugly cases on his products ... unfortunately, he should have had his team focus on durability in addition to the usual apple "design/style" trumps all. as far as the pricing, well, he knew very well that all of those silly antics around the design will cost and it will be transferred to the poor consumer. i haven't tried ics with my lumia, yet, but then again, it's not a key requirement for me. by the way, i recently did a screen comparison with all phones on hand -- iphone 4, galaxy, and my lumia 900 -- clearblack wins hands down. apple and droid can keep fighting over the pixel counts ....

Ok, and I've seen iPhones and Nokia 800s crash, so what is your point then exactly. Are you really even trying to make one? Cause I'm pretty sure you haven't. I've seen every phone on every system crash, you said Android phones do so all the time, every 4 hours, which is simply untrue. I pointed that out, you then went on to say how your friends nexus was crappy. I helped explain it was likely hardware failure and that your friend should get it checked out. Now your saying that you want a phone that never crashes. I don't think I've ever heard of any phone that never does that. So really... your just talking out your ass, have fun!

I love my htc mozart. Just bought it coz I'm not into buying stuff when it's hot ( and uber expensive).

Windows phone was out of my radar until recently and I wanted something to help me in my work. I'm not going to baby talk you like *ooooh look at the pretty colors!*. No, I'll be talking jargon so if you want to follow allow you'll have to google the terms.

1. Office integration - Webapps which include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Onenote.
I can put my docs in skydrive and view them on my phone and edit them there too. Do you realize what this means?!? It's freakin neat!

2. The amount of built-in features are many, but the thing is, you won't need a manual. If you had a tech-phobic momma who's afraid to even add contacts on her old phone, she could Own this thing. It took me 1 hour to breeze thru the phone system, no memorization required. What you feel should be the next step to perform the task will probably what you'll have to do.

3. Music Pictures - it depends on the hardware, my phone is an old mozart and it's ok

4. Phone calls - GOOD! My house has a metal frame and I could never get a signal inside ( Gaussian effect ). I'm thankful FINALLY just to be able to use my phone indoors and not leave it at the windowsill.

5. APPS - the store has all the apps I need. I'm not really into games and most of what I have are productivity related. This is not a kid's phone. It's a business or IT phone. .... but when I do play, it's decent hehehe.

6. Battery - Crap! But I don't know if it's because it's a second-hand phone with worn out batteries, the hoops I have to get the phone thru all day, or if it's built that way but it only lasts me 1 day. But if I have to charge it every night, I'll thank my stars because of what it does for me throughout the day.

I played with a Lumia 900 at the AT&T store and wasn't impressed. It does the same things that my iPhone did, just with a different ui. It's a great looking phone though. For someone like you, apparently not interested in specs, app testing, heavy web browsing and the like, that phone is perfect. But I'm interested in all those things. IOS and windows mobile are just too simple for me. But Jobs had a point when he said the best camera is the one you have with you, hence why shooting 1080p on a phone is useful. And my Note running ICS is as smooth if not smoother than any windows phone out there. I'd know, phones are my thing and I've played with almost all of them.

I don't even know if I should respond, as this is such a bla bla defense your giving. "Oh yea, well my best friends phone has issues so they all must...".

First, the HTC Dream ran the first version of Android OS. It is 4 years old and the OS has gone through 3 more versions since then. Can't draw a comparison with that. I'm pretty sure Apples first attempt at a smart phone OS was buggy (I had one) and Microsoft's was damn near unusable (Windows Mobile).

Second, I could name 4 people with a Galaxy Nexus and 4 people with a Galaxy S off the top of my head who love their phones (I have a Nexus, my brother has a Nexus, etc.) but that is such a dumb argument that instead I will try to help your friend out. It sounds like your friends device is having hardware issues, and she should most likely return it under warranty. I've had a blackberry that's done the same thing, returned it, got a new one, works fine. To assume that its the operating system or that its similar to all Nexus devices simply because you know one person whose phone is having issues is just plain silly. My friends iPhone 4s didn't work when he first got it either, but Apple fixed it... Whats even sillier is the fact that she hasn't returned it to have it fixed yet... I mean really, really? You think that there wouldn't be millions of complaints if everyone was experiencing that issue??? Its obviously just a faulty device, out of millions of successful, which happens with every tech release.

So this is the record your basing it on, your 2 pals... I could name 5 android devices right now which are great devices: Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Droid Razr Maxx, HTC Rezound and Droid 4. All of which have gotten critical appraise, sold well, and work great, even the devices with gingerbread. Nokia has 1 WP device available in the US, the 900, which has been purchased by a very small proportion of the smartphone population (30th still means theres 29 phones out there selling better, the majority of iOS and Android devices). Don't get me wrong, I like WP, and the idea behind it, but there's no need to bash Android when obviously it works well and is deemed great by many phone owners...

I owned an HTC Dream (better known as the first-gen T-Mobile G1) but gave it up because I was sick of the daily crashes. I was also pretty pissed about not being able to upgrade past Android 1.6.

Aside from that, I've lived with two Android users. Currently, they own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and a Samsung Galaxy S. The Galaxy Nexus crashes daily and spins in endless reboot loops until she removes the battery. It's pitiful to see that behavior on a freaking flagship device with "Nexus" in the name. The Galaxy S fares a little better, but still reboots around twice a week during normal use.

My Samsung Focus has crashed 5 times in the last 16 months. Internet Explorer has crashed perhaps a dozen times, but when it does it neither loses my tab URLs nor forces a system reboot. So tell me, what "good" Android phones have that kind of a record?

Are you ignorant or just completely unaware of how the smartphone market works? Oh you clearly think windows phone is the best... So both. Having a dual core means I can run powerful software on my phone. Software someone with any other phone wouldn't even be able to think about using. It allows for blazing fast download speeds, better battery life and all together smooth performance. I played with a Lumia 900 the other day. It wasn't that impressive. My Galaxy Note is just as smooth and far more useful. Windows phone does nothing new. It's just different. That's it. You can't shoot 1080p video. You don't have a 720p display. You have a very limited app market. It's barely customizable. You can't run hardware intensive software. Your phone can't do half the things mine can. Next time you want to make a point, do it when there's actually a viable point to be made. And then work on your grammar and sentance structure. Get out of here with your nonsense.

it depends on what you require in a smartphone. if 1080p video shooting is your deal, i have some really better hw (not phones) that will blow any droid away for that purpose -- without killing the battery in 20 mins as it would with a droid. same goes for n-cores or whatever other super high hw specs that the manufacturers keep toying customers with. the bottom line is: does it run smoothly ? the droids i have used with dual-core cannot compete with windows phone ... not even close. ms + nokia is doing a great job and know very well that the "right" combination of hw to go with the os makes a huge difference in terms of user experience. so, yea, the droid oem's can continue to compete based on spec sheets, but it won't make those phones any better -- just your wallet smaller.

what kind of customization are you talking about ? i want a phone that's easy to use, has a great form factor/design, and handles all social interactions with ease. iphone meets these criteria but has a couple of "serious" drawbacks: 1) they're way too expensive, 2) they're terribly fragile (see 1) about replacement cost) -- made ugly with fat cases, 3) the ui is smooth, but dated. a lot of people seem to forget that ios only added multitasking and other real goodies starting with iphone 4 ... so, it took them 4 revs to put some good things into that os. as far as droid, well, it's just a mess...

you're correct -- pretty much all the other smartphone platforms can provide the same kind of "general" (not all have that 1080p video shooting you require) functionality. however, in my opinion, the lumia is the best thing to happen to smartphones in a while and it's a refreshing change from the boredom (and to me -- not so great experience) of droid + ios.

I LOLd pretty good at your comparison but it's not completely accurate. My phone rarely ever crashes. In fact it crashes about as often as my iPhone did. And my batter lasts about 15 hours on a charge (according to my phone) but I get through the day. The features that only work half the time that you speak of, I don't know of any. Maybe with Motorola or LG. But my Samsung Galaxy Note is solid and works great.

Agreed, which is why all this "single core" crap is irrelevant. In the end you still won't have multi-tasking until you up the cores, which is what WP will do with their Apollo phones anyway. It is the dumbest argument for the Windows Phone OS I have ever heard. If you took out all of Androids functionality and brought it back down to WP capabilities it would run fine on 1 core as well...

Where I think WP does well is the interface. Now how much of the praise in this area is due simply to the novelty and how much it has actually "advanced" the UI field is questionable. I liked test driving WP, and it did work well, but I have never had problems using my Android phones either, so its not a big selling point for me.

@e0c7ca48000416233267756533193ae3:disqus Oh god, its the iPhone people. How is this even a valid comparison. The Nexus One cost as much when it was released as buying an unlocked 2 year old iPhone 4 now. It was produced by HTC. It was HTC that decided not to upgrade ICS. Does your iPhone 4 have Siri without jailbreaking it? No. Could it run it? For sure. iOS is forcefully fragmented to make money. Android updates are denied to avoid spending money by the company that built them, not the OS itself.

Again, your knowledge of the computing power difference between 1 and 4 cores is idiotic at best. 4 cores allow for greater threading/multi-tasking. Neither the iPhone 4S or any Windows Phone does true multi-tasking. With ICS there is even no lag due to multi-tasking thanks to ICS hardware acceleration. More cores don't mean run smooth, more cores mean run smooth and do 4 separate things at once. Something neither of your phones can do. By your logic, all computers should only have 1 core, because no one will ever want to do 2 things on their computer at once... Whats even better is that Apollo is supposed to support multi-tasking, but it won't be an upgrade option for Nokia's released phones...why...because it requires multiple cored computing...

I have no problem with Android owners who switched to Windows Phone, they generally seem to be normal, friendly people. But I feel like every iPhone user whose moved to WP has quadrupled their elitist smug ways... I am not a Fandroid, I have had an iPhone and Android phones in the past, I am not a WinFan, Microsoft has done both great and poor things to its consumers in the past, and I am not an iFan, I have an iPad, iPod, etc. and still think they could do things better. But you sir, are a jerk, and an ignorant one at that.

Android Lags and is still fragmented. My almost 2 year oldiPhone 4 is still getting updates... Will your Nexus 1 be getting ICS without rooting it? Lmao.

Seriously, what is it about Android morons (poor people) that they love to brag about dual/quad core(s)? My iPhone 4 and soon Nokia Lumia run smooth in a single core. Why does it take a quad core to run smooth? Fail!

Fan droids are scared! They should be. Their crappy plastic(y) phones are garbage compared to the iPhone 4 and Lumia 900
