ATT did say that the average user uses 2GB, but data usage, just like everything has changed. People are using more data than ever. So they are giving the option of more data with a small price increase to support increasing usage. Duh!

I tried very hard for a month to use as much data as possible on my phone (without tethering) and I was not even close to the 2G limit. I believe 99+% of AT&T customers use anywhere between 1M and 2G. Giving the 3G limit is just a way to squeeze more money out of their customers.

And remember this, when AT&T removed unlimited plan not too long ago, they CLAIM they were saving customer's money by dropping the data price by $5 but still giving them enough data. Now what?

Scottnj - I am totally agree with you "new customers will be paying 5 dollars a month for extra data they will never use. " I do not need 2 gig and I HAVE to pay $20 instead off $15.

I think the next big change to AT&T data plans will come about with wider implementation of 4G. Those with unlimited data plans will be able to keep them, but they'll be renamed as unlimited 3G data plans -- if you want to use 4G, you'll need a new data plan :-(

Chris you seem to forget that ATT has said many times that the average att customer uses less then 2 gigs.
That means new customers will be paying 5 dollars a month for extra data they will never use.
Its a price increase for new users no matter how you look at it, ATT wins.
