I agree that is manipulative, and I dislike it as well. But the bottom line is that it's perfectly legal, and they know that they won't lose enough customers to get hurt by it. Honestly, what large corporation in the US wouldn't use this tactic nowadays? Sprint has unthrottled unlimited data, but that's their marketing strategy to attract former AT&T/Verizon customers. But what would happen when they feel they have a comfortable customer base, or feel the number of data-using customers is nearing their network capacity? The Sprint CEO said it himself, he doesn't know how long unthrottled/unlimited data will last.

It varies, just like any other company. I've been with AT&T since 2002, and sometimes I get great customer service, sometimes I don't. I don't come off as an idiot when I'm on the line with them; I consider myself pretty reasonable. Consider yourself lucky that you've had 100% good customer service. Anyhow I've had other lines on Tmo and Sprint. Same deal. So its nonsense that everyone is trashing AT&T's customer service, but at the same time it would be false to say AT&T does not have bad customer service.

Here's the thing, if you guys haven't figure it out yet. Like any service provider, AT&Thief wants everyone to pay for the data being use. In other words, if you pay say, $50 for 5G(unless u go over) you wont get throttle, but if you have unlimited, is like just purchasing 2G of data with the implied protection of no overages. Basically, they want peep to get upset and switch to a tier plan. Yes, you have cable t.v, but you don't get the premium channels like HBO, have to pay for premium service, in this case fork over more "dinero".

I am the data king. I got the message for approaching the top 5% 4 days ago and they still haven't shut me down baby. Whoo!!!! I was at 8.2 gb's when I got the message now I'm over 9. They can't touch me. I got shut down last month with about 4 days left in my cycle. 23rd. (I moved away for school and turns out the place I rent doesn't have internet so I tether everything to my computer from my phone.) Sorry but it beats getting a 40 dollar a month ISP right now. I'm usually on 10p-3 am so I doubt I'm congesting the network too much.

I don't think that is really the issue here. The issue is people are using their phones how they purchased them to use them and have always had unlimited data now they are getting slowed down all of the sudden. Unlimited 3g data should be unlimited 3g data. Not unlimited prehistoric data speeds.

Last month I was throttled at 2 gigs on the dot. It only targets unlimited customers. He's right you shouldn't get throttle at 2 gigs if it cost $30 for 3 gigs. Its also unreasonable the amount of data that's throttled. it totally cripples your smart phone from doing everyday tasks. Last time I remembered I payed AT&T good money under contract for quality service not for them to intentionally cripple it for their own benefit . It seems like deceitful Practices. There is and should be benefits for staying with a company for so long and giving them your support. Atleast let unlimited people out of there contracts, because i didnt sign a two year agreement to get horrible service. It's like what netflix did by changing their plans so dramatically . It's a slap in the face.

Yah connected with Customer Care quick and to the point. They're helpful too. I think wait time is typically longer if new devices are released.
Tmo I had long wait time problems. Tmo wait was longer when a new device rolled out too and that's like every month. Nobody knew their shit and treated me like a second rate citizen.

You can check out my thoughts on YouTube video AT&T is a Slumlord.

Bottom line, they can do what they want, but they are treating there most loyal long term customers like dirt. But they will make more money. Gonna give Smart Talk a chance

Data caps don't bother you because of your limited expectations. That's all that is.

Also, why not reply directly to that other comment? That would make more sense than some general comment about customer service posted in an article about data caps, right?

Right.

Context is key.

This has nothing to do with customer service and everything to do with manipulative marketing tactics that are disgusting and egregious abuses of consumer ignorance all in the name of increased profit margins.

If you don't see it, you deserve the life you lead. If you can't feel anything, how can you get hurt? Ignorance must be bliss.

Ok, I'm tired of the garbage I hear about AT&T's "poor customer service" and I'm sure a bunch of people will be trolling about it, so listen up. Never I'n the 13 years my family and I have been with AT&T have we had poor customer service. Just the other day, a friend of mine, also on AT&T, had a question about some charges on his bill, so he called support. I kid you not, with in 30 seconds he was talking to someone. Those charges happened to be long distance messages he had sent but not known that they would be long distance. What did support do? They offered to remove the charges. I don't care what people say, AT&T does not have bad customer service.
