Comments on: ASUS Transformer Prime with Ice Cream Sandwich available today

I updated my Transformer Prime to ICS last night (in the UK) and to be honest I am not that impressed.
Firstly, They remove the 5 screen view when you long pressed the home screen and moved the widgets to a tab in the app drawer. The amount of times I have tapped the app drawer and widgets have been selected is frustrating.

I think the stock browser has also gone backwards; the update has removed the feature in the browser settings to change the user agent from mobile view to desktop view, they have replaced this with a ‘Request Desktop View’, which doesn’t always work and makes the browser more unstable. I aslo cannot find a home page button anywhere in the browser. Good job there are plenty of alternative browsers available.

However despite the two issues above bugging me, the update overall is good as it has generally made it smoother and I do like being able to swipe the notifications rather than pressing the small ‘x’ previously.

I got my ICS update yesterday, but didn’t experience any random reboot. Also, I did notice the Riptide game ran faster and noticeably smoother with ICS than with Honeycomb. ICS’s user interface is also better to manage the icons/apps. Still learning (my first Android device), and kept finding new things. So far, none of the problems like others’: WiFi, GPS (with WiFi indoors, without outdoors), etc.

This is great, now if you could actually buy a Transformer Prime to load it on that would be even better! Between this announcement and the announcement of a new 7″ Prime what the hell is Asus doing? How about they focus on getting their current product in to the sales channel before they worry about all this other crap!

Sorry to say so Dataman but a big part of me actually hopes they mess up this ICS update too. Asus need to be brought to heel here. Another smoke and mirrors rushed botch job to take the heat off Jerry before he climbed on stage yesterday;- he needed his big WOW statement and this was his easy out…”don’t talk about that look at this”. Asus PR need to have a lie down in dark room, regroup and stop the BS and start being honest with people. I’ve no doubt prime is great (hell – I want one myself) I just can’t stomach the lies. There’s loads to like about the the Prime but they’ve cut everyone loose here. New model when they can’t even get the faulty one out into the market let alone provide a fix?!?!

Help! Has anyone come up with a solution for the random rebooting post ICS update?? I have two and they are BOTH doing it. A quick search on the Prime forums reveals others are suffering the same problems. Fine with Honeycomb, then unstable with ICS update.

Im in canada and got ics this afternoon. Hell yeah. My wifi works just fine, dont give a rat about a gps. I thought honeycomb was alright on the prime…but ics on this thing just blew me away.

if gps was on your priority list, i can understand if you take a pass on the prime. But, pitty those crybabies who returned/canceled their prime even though gps wasnt even on their priority list.

I severely doubt it…skipping on functionality possibly but why would you put a high quality GPS chip in to see it fail miserably then embarass yourself with missed launch dates trying to fix wifi failings, desperate and ineffective firmware updates etc. They’ve denied so much that they can’t see the path back to honesty…its “look at the monkey” time

PS shouldn’t Asus remove the “Stunning & Beautiful metallic spun finish with ultra-slim and light features of the Transformer Prime sets a new benchmark in the art of tablet” aspect from their marketing features of the Prime ? They’ve cited this as the primary downfall of the GPS and poor WiFi functionality to the point of removing the former from the spec sheet so surely they can’t have it both ways here- Good or Bad make up your mind.

Might I suggest as a middle ground

“Stunning and Beautiful metallic spun finish – we can fcuk up your key functionality in either Champagne Gold or Amethyst Grey then fix it in a few months for $100 more”
