Gorilla glass is still glass, it’s tougher but can still be damaged. Besides, not all Gorilla Glass is equally durable. So for proper protection a cover is still recommended and of course the cover also doubles as a two position stand. While also helping to keep the dirt and dust off the screen when not in use.

A proper user review is still needed to determine if this cover will be a good cover or not though. The iPad2′s Smart Cover for example is basically terrible at actually helping to keep the screen clean, mostly because of the gaps provided by the folding segments and the material the cover is made from.

However, some may still consider it because of the cover/stand combination is still lighter and thinner than other solutions. While a simple cleaning cloth between the screen and cover could compensate for it’s faults.

Though I’d recommend a full cover case as the brushed aluminum side may get scratched or even dented over time.

Because Corning Gorilla Glass is “good” not perfect. Scratches from the other items in your bag/case will create stray marks over the course of time. I agree with Upirons that the slots will be at risk of degradation from the repeated use of a cover such as this – which is why I intend to only use the docking ports for the official keyboard dock, and otherwise use a protective envelope style cover as necessary in day to day point-to-point travels. I know, people will say that if Asus developed the cover, then they’re sure that Asus put thought into the docking ports, but in truth – I think the smart cover is more of a reaction to a large competitor’s smart cover offering rather than a long term innovative process that ensures quality over degradation.

I can already see the wear and tear those slots are going to take with frequent use of that sleeve and the keyboard dock. Hope they reinforced those suckers well.
