Hi,
I would like it to have USB 3.0 and LTE/4G (at least 3G)!
…if it won’t have these specs I would feel quite tricked and will certainly not buy it.

But I’m happy it seems to look great and is still made out of aluminium.

Yes, that’s true. My wifi is much more robust now. Hasn’t dropped the wifi connection since I updated to ICS on the 10th.

Wasnt the ICS update supposed to improve wifi considerably? I’ve read a couple of reports from people reporting as much with their personal devices (noticeably improved WIFI performance).

I preorderd Nov 27 and got it Dec 23rd. We’ve loved it and no WIFI issues. Updated ICS last night and wow what a difference. I ordered one for myself shortly after setting up my wife’s but of course won’t see it until early/mid Feb.

Believe it or not, GPS is not the main defect of the Prime. It’s the weeeakkkk WiFi, in large part, due to the exact same design flaw that killed the GPS reception.

The WiFi drops in and out unless you want to chain yourself to within 20 -25ft of your router.

A tablet without good Wifi, how much are you willing to pay for that?

Ok so it was a typo, it’s 1920 x 1200, but in any case, Android apps haven’t been designed with Full HD in mind, so what are you really losing if you own the 1280×800 Prime? Are you going to store Blu-Ray movies on your Full HD Prime with 64GB of memory?

1020 x 1200 isn’t 16:9, or 4:3, or 5:4, or 3:2… it’s 17:20… wtf? This is supposed to fit the Prime dock? Obviously that resolution is wrong or Asus made a serious mistake. Sure, it’s 1080p capable, but not Full HD capable, meaning 1920×1080 or Blu-Ray capable, so I don’t really see the point, or why people would be upset.

Man, to be totally honest , I think a have never had a worst experience with a company in my life.
Pre-Ordered Tranformer Prime on launch date November 22 2011 , obviously expecting it as a Christmas gift . After waiting anxiously for the tablet, all I could see was Pre-Order cancellations issues … Wifi issues …GPS response issues….Browser Issues…Screen Issues. Obviously it didn’t arrrive by Christmas. Being empty handed for Christmas I expexted to give the tablet as a New Year present….. guess what? . Arrived at my porch January 4, 2012. Then waited for another special occasion , being my daughter’s birthday January Friday 13 , and feeling ok because most people still haven’t got theirs. But then….5 days later …. wait for it ….. January 9 2012 Asus announces a new Transformer Prime 700 with a complementary futuristic video showing a guy excited in his living room playing with it. I thought I was hallucinating , got sick to my stomach. How are you going to screw me next Asus ? Telling me you feel sorry and offering me a $10 discount ? Telling me there is no shame on the walk of shame ?

ASUS ADMIT YOU SOLD A DEFECTIVE TABLET- FALSE ADVERTISED-INFERIOR PRODUCT. Hmmm…. $700 for the 64GB version? That’s a bit much, even for the Prime, IMHO. The improvements are nice, but I’m not sure I’m willing to cancel my current 64GB Prime amazon order to wait for this and pay $100 more. I know I’ll rarely if ever use the GPS on it. Personally I think Asus should be offering a free back replacement to existing prime owners, and simply replace the existing back with the fixed one in all prime models going forward.

Of much greater interest to me is the newly announced 7″ tablet from Asus running a tegra 3 and selling for $250. Now that is a phenomenal deal on some serious power and portability. That to me would make for a perfect commuting tablet or a tablet that a young kid could have as a first tablet for learning games and the like.

Funny, but a bit of a stretch on the example. On a 42″ LCD TV if you sit over 5 feet away the human eye can’t distinguish the difference between 720 and 1080. It is a pretty over-hyped technology. The display technologies make more of a difference (ie AMOLED vs Plasma vs DLP, etc)

I will email support and ask them if they would exchange my Prime for this. Luckily under german law I bought mine when they still advertised GPS as a feature, so now lacking GPS is to be considered a flaw, and I would be entitled to have it fixed. Since they cant fix it they need to take it back. This really is adding insult to injury for those who bought a Prime.

I feel your pain Chad/Riki – and there must be hundreds of others. I’m still waiting on one of these for my daughter and feel as if I’m careering towards a cliff edge…I really want one of these but every bone in my body is telling me not to proceed. All I’m looking for here is a nugget of acknowledgement and admission of liability from Asus. I’m not techically minded enough to fully understand the potential options (extenal antenna, replacement casing, discount, free hdmi cable) but they don’t admit liability here. I reckon the new spec (HD etc) is just a smokescreen to buy them time to fix their problem – especially given the timescales cited (who in their right mind would announce an update before the to a product you can’t even get on the shelves!!!). Has anyone actually seen this mythical tablet with the new casing ? If it was genuine one should physically be on display and inspection. I’ve emailed Asus via support contact us escalation mailbox..as expected though nothing but wish-wash statement

I pretty much expected something like this. Not so soon, though. I didn’t buy the original Transformer because Tegra2 seemed too slow to me, so I’ve been waiting for Tegra3 – which back then was said to be in stores during Q3 last year. My guess is that in less than a year everything is Tegra4 with 2560×1440 or something similar, so will I wait another 3-6 months for a 1920×1080 Tegra3? Nope. I’m buying the Transformer Prime now and next year I’ll replace it with next years model.

There should definitely be a movement or a facebook page or something on this. I received mine by catching Best Buy when they had a couple in stock online. This is what I emailed them. If the WIFI Worked properly, I really wouldn’t care. Clear case of we screwed up, how do we fix it? Why are they not in stores if this is a “High End” model???

I recently made my first purchase of a Tablet and chose the Asus Transformer Prime.
Not 1 week after I was able to track one online, I see you have announced in my opinion a properly engineered version of the Prime due out in within months.

I had to track the prime I currently have down and they are still not available on most sites. People are scalping them online.

I am in the customer services space and this in my opinion is all an attempt at damage control. I have never heard of a model being upgraded before the current version is readily available.

My wife and I saved to buy a high quality and quite frankly I am completely deflated. I feel like we have a Beta or quickly discontinued 500.00 tablet.

This was our first ASUS purchase and was recommending it to others. With business practice like this, I am not confident recommending a product where others can be caught in this type of situation, we spent a lot of money. This is not a 199 kindle purchase, but maybe it should have been.

The insult to injury will be if my concerns are not addressed and this email is disregarded as a sorry about your luck scenario.

Agree with all here – Asus correct their mistake by dressing it up as a new product rather than making good on an existing fault – shameful…not just on their attitude but overall. How the hell do you mess up the wi-fi on a high spec wi-fi only product ?!?! Not a professional GPS device ? presumably the new one will be now that it’ll be fit for purpose !!! And when will they remove “metallic spun design” from the sales blurb…or at least be honest about it. “Have your key functionality aesthetically fcuked up in either Amethyst grey or Champagne Gold!”

Wtf Asus. Wtf. I am an early adopter and I am quite frankly not happy. The resolution is a bit of a kick in the pants but hardly a deal breaker. However, as someone previously said, the improved connectivity is. Why would you design a tablet with bad reception only to announce another improved model in the span of 2 months? I am already on the fence about keeping my prime given the crappy web browsing experience – holding out for ICS, hoping it will arrive within my two week return period – but this may make my decision for me.

I don’t play that game anymore. I can tell I have the TF201 with the dock coming. I like it despite the GPS issues (I don’t use GPS on it so …). This is my first ASUS product and as a company i think they have serious support and some quality issues. So I will not be buying form them again any time soon.

in 5 months if they can even deliver this new tablet by then, there will be many more choices for you.
