Consumers do care about the horse power in a device. Why do you think the Galaxy s2 is so popular? I've heard so many things of why the duel core exynos processor in the galaxy s2 is fast. Asus has an advantage over other quad-core tablets that will be coming out later, they can say it's the first tablet with it. Even without mentioning the other advantages this tablet has it'll catch people's attention with just saying that. Ow and it will have a 12 hour battery life without the dock, this would make it the longest lasting tablet on the market too.

How could you judge he is an Apple fan boy ? He has a point even though it has a reply on. I think lots of end users will just get fed up with all these techi-details and ask simpler questions like "How a quad-core CPU will affect my tablet experience ? How can the amount of RAM affect this experience ?

It is then the smart marketing from companies to show users that 1) Buying a Quad-Cored tablet will greatly help with battery life and "Movie Editing", so you can edit your home videos much faster. 2) Higher amount of RAM allows for better multi-tasking (which other competitors lags behind).

For me, I will buy the older transformer without the keyboard, as my work mainly depends on a powerful specs that even Tegra 3 won't keep up much with (search for benchmarks between Tegra's vs Intel). and I will be waiting for the next Tegra 4 to come out, this is when I may replace my main-working laptop with it.

All I have to say is that I am getting a tablet in the coming weeks. Which one that is, I am not sure. The Transformer Prime with the Tegra 3 is extremely intriguing. I have never liked Apple products, but the iPad 2 is hard to argue. I hope stores like BestBuy have this in hand so I can compare it to the iPad 2. I would much prefer the Prime over the iPad 2.

Actually, Tegra3 is actually a penta-core SoC with the small Arm7 running when nothing much is happening and switch to a pair of A9 cores when usage goes up. This switching is in milliseconds so not noticable. On high usage all 4 A9 cores goes live but will switch down to 2 cores if not needed, this seems dynamic with strong power gating in the modules.
So expect almost the same battery life due to the more advanced power management in general use. If one is going gaming all the time, the battery will drain faster compared to Tegra2.

What "next steps" are they taking besides a new processor and OS (which was also done with the iPad 2)?

I don't know how to feel about this. These seems like overclocked dual core numbers than Quad Core numbers. I expected to see higher 3D numbers. Maybe it's a function of the benchmark itself - like how cheaper video cards outperform more expensive ones at lower resolutions. Either this is fake or I'm going to be a little disappointed :(

?? I have a ASUS Transformer and love it, I plan at looking at the Transformer Prime when it comes out. I agree with you that processing power is not the be-all end-all I am just as interested to see if they thin it out and bring its weight down.

As to the battery life, I guess you haven't been reading about the Tegra 3 chipset, though it is 4 core it is showing equal if not better battery life than the Tegra 2 chips out there right now. It is designed to shut down 3 of the 4 cores when they are not needed to conserve power.

My current ASUS Transformer with the Tegra 2 gets about 8 hours (of use) of battery life when I am not using the dock, when I use the dock it gets about 14 hours. I usually leave with my tablet in the morning at 6:30AM and get home around 6PM from work and my Transformer usually still has about 30% to 40% to its battery. The materials on the Prime show so far about the same battery life as the current transformer, so if it has x2 performance and the same battery life I will be pretty happy.

?? I have a ASUS Transformer and love it, I plan at looking at the Transformer Prime when it comes out. I agree with you that processing power is not the be-all end-all I am just as interested to see if they thin it out and bring its weight down.

As to the battery life, I guess you haven’t been reading about the Tegra 3 chipset, though it is 4 core it is showing equal if not better battery life than the Tegra 2 chips out there right now.

FAKE! So it seems that the ASUS Prime must pack a 2gb memory (see memory part) since it doubles the amount of score! Or maybe a ddr3 for that case. But i dont hink ddr2-ddr3 could cause such double performance on this hardware.

Interesting... so all the Tegra 2, OMAP 4, Exynos and S3 chipsets should perform better on ICS you think?

I will keep an eye out to see how it works! I definitely agree that some changes, such as the JIT compiler added in Android (2.2 I think?) make a very big difference in some of these tests... so it could just be software/drivers after all.

Remember that the Tegra 3 has a number of integrated features that no prior device has implemented in the hardware to date. As a result, it is unlikely that the software for this benchmarking suite has had the ability to implement those features into the model that is used to calculate the 3D rendering scores.

For example, is real time dynamic lighting included in the scene generation? The answer is almost certainly no. What mobile platform device has been able to do that before? None of course, so they had nothing to test or implement that feature.

How do we know what the measure of the 3D performance was in the first place? Is it predicated exclusively on fps? Does the availability or lack of availability of certain specific features modify the score?

Has the application been modified to take advantage of pipelining differences between the different chipsets at all?

Right now there is almost no information out there on how the metrics in this suite are derived and the basic analysis you can do on the product so far indicates that the assessment is very, very simple. Comparing known devices with significant qualitative differences in specification, you end up with very close quantitative scores. This kind of deviation raises significant accuracy concerns for the current specifications, let alone accepting the benchmark for a speculative new device which it is not yet optimized to properly assess.

there is a 60 fps (or may be 30 fps) software limitation for graphics rendering.

No matter how strong your graphics is, you can only achieve 60fps at best. So in order to test graphics, you have to use a really graphics intense test.
