As a TP owner, I can honestly say I have no wifi issues whatsoever. Gps is a different story though, its really bad! Although the 700 series 1080p screen seems nice I wouldn't have opted for it even if I had the choice, at least not for an additional $100. Also, most early adopters of the 201 were aware of the flaws well within the standard return period of most retailers. If Asus really burned you bacon, you could have just returned it.

Gotta object. The factual offset between the TF201 (Prime) and TF700T (Prime FIXED) is only about 2 months if that. In the TABLET space, this is an unseen speed of model updates.

The Prime is by no means readily available in the marketplace yet, pre-orders are still waiting for deliveries and stock dates are in the 2-4 week range with most online retailers. So MAYBE the Prime will be readily available by beginning of FEBRUARY.

Now if Asus has learned anything from the CF they did with the Prime, they will have the TF700T available in numbers and in stock, and as they said it will be there "really soon", so make that April 1st (no pun intended). They already have demo units out NOW.
I bet that thing is already in production or close to it.

I remember Asus said in November "We have no plans for a 3G model, maybe in the second HALF(!) of 2012 if we see demand."

I also have a Prime, and I am EXTREMELY pi..ed off by Asus. I want a working GPS and this thing is not good enough to navigate. They offer 6 months more warranty on it as a courtesy, screw that. And in Germany where I am, they have now delayed ICS until the end of January.

This Prime "experience" is a tragedy with one new disappointment every day.

I had ordered the Prime from Fry's on Dec 12 and missed the first batch of Primes, so I was told the next shipment would be Jan 8. Well they claimed they did not receive that second batch, so I ordered the Prime from Office Depot on Jan 9 with an anticipated ship date of Jan 17. I cancelled both orders yesterday and will just wait on the 700 series. This is my birthday present which is already a month late, I can wait a few more months to get what I want.

Why do you have to get negatively personal and toss out little bs comments in a technical forum? Grow up and give us the benefit of your experience with the Prime instead of commenting on YBMA's "camping" experience.
For instance, I would really like to know what distances and reliability you have found on your Prime in relation to WIFI. Does it indeed have a problem with the GPS feature - which I and others - did include in making the decission to buy this unit - or does your GPS feature work flawlessly? What do you really like about the Primet? What do you find as short-comings - if any?.

Help us out here, share the positives and keep the other crap and snide comments to yourself. Thanks.

I have a Prime arriving via UPS on 1.17. Right now I am very inclined to return it un-opened and get my money back. I can not believe the incredibly stupid, non-business savy and customer unfriendly manner in which ASUS is handling the launch of their "world class Tablets". First they sell one that does not function as advertised and then, before the short commings are resolved, they come out with a replacement costing $100 more that provides the solution to the problems that PRIME owners are stuck with.

They should have offered to replace the screwy metal backplate. At the very least they should have offered it to their customers at cost at a ASUS service center. I would have been happy and would be singing their praise. Instead I now I feel like I am getting scr.... by them and frankly I, like Craig, am staying far away from ASUS. Maybe I'll get an apple and/or maybe I'll get something less sexy but from a company that repects and appreciates loyal customers.

I really wanted a Transformer Prime but I have been turned off the way Asus has handled every stage of the release of the product. For me though, the biggest issue has been the lack of implementing a 3G version. Not all countries have unlimited data options with phone carriers to warrant tethering being a good option. Not to mention the drain on your mobiles battery life. What good is having a tablet that lasts 18 hours if your phone will die in two.

I'll probably just end up holding off for the introduction of Windows 8 tablets now.

I hope the 700 series will have at least 2GB RAM just like the Lenovo K2. Now that my little-one has reserved my Touchpad for viewing Mickey mouse all evenings, I need an other tablet.

I strongly sympathize with the Prime but since I would like to use it with Ubuntu as well (chroot with vnc), that 2GB RAM would be quite welcome.

If the K2 comes out with 2GB and a similar battery-keyboard-dock like the Prime, that will probably swing me to Lenovo.

Absolutely correct.

This is a preemptive strike against the iPad3 and the Lenovo K2 which is known to come out with 2GB of RAM and 1080p-capable display.

Of course they could have waited a couple of weeks but they had to show something at CES.

"I might go for TOSHIBA's Excite which is thinner and probably better"

$529 for a 16gb dualcore tablet? LOL. Clearly better than the Prime, a $499 32gb quad core that *might* have some antenna issues (mine as well as my friends have no wifi issues at all).

Enjoy throwing your money away for better GPS. It'll really help with all the camping that I'm sure you do.

The Prime, either one, seems like a good future choice. If I get one I will wait for ASUS to sort this mess out. However it is precisely this kind of mess that leads people to choose the Apple product. Rushed out kit, on the cutting edge, can be buggy.

I'm feeling a bit warmer over the Samsung 7.7 tab at the moment. A well made device in a smaller format has advantages for me.

I hope you're right, but if so, couldn't ASUS just sort out the case on the existing screen? Is this an assembly problem? The 1080p bump seems to be a pre-emptive strike at the Apple iPad3 (or 4) people expect to see; so that makes sense.

Perhaps, in their eagerness to get a jump on the market, ASUS just aren't doing enough testing.

Let's be clear - this new badly timed announcement of the 700 series Prime does little more than address the issues of the existing Prime. Its important to recognise that a GPS/WiFi "boost" is nothing of the sort. The term boost would imply that they're adding something;- THEY'RE NOT - all they're doing is changing the poorly designed casing that is BLOCKING the existing signal and thetrefore allowing the tablet to function as intended and as sold/marketed.

I am really frustrated with ASUS, I am waiting here in Malaysia eagerly just to buy the Transformer Prime, And now. they simply bring up the 700 series, which will eventually put my plans to a halt. I personally not going to spend 500$ on the TF201 with all the WiFi and no GPS issues it has. I hope they release the 700 series sooner. For now, I will pass on the current Asus Transformer Prime, I will also re-consider Asus after what they have done to their users, I might go for TOSHIBA's Excite X-10 which is thinner and probably better. Japanese companies never put something into the market without testing it till getting bored. Not the case with ASUS apparently.

If ASUS is really considering keeping all requests for the Prime up, and not pre-orders cancelled, they should find a fast smart solution where they can change the whole back panel with a new plastic or partially plastic one and postpone current shipments for about two weeks. Also, they should offer exchange service or a smart solution for current user with issues. I think if they can get something like a plastic sticker on the aluminium spots inside the prime at the back of the panel then that would probably boost the signal by 40-55% and help much.
