The Ultrabooks had better be ~$150-$200 cheaper than equivalent MacBook Airs or they won't fly. The MBAs have Intel Inside too and we all know that Apple gets higher margins than PC Compatibles.

Jesus you're angry.... All of your arguments are moot... If you are worried about support, then buy from the manufacturer that you feel confident with. Simple. Why worry about an optical drive? How often d you install software? You don't need to carry an external cd drive all the time... And in the age of mp3 players surely you can rip Your music cd's. Its easy to transfer your tunes to any computer. Small screen and keyboard... Lol, ok, whatever. Listen, this obviously isntfor you. Go buy some humongous desktop-replacement laptop then. Lots of people are buying these...

And my important questions, and these are extremely important to me, are:
1) When will these mini-laptops stop being worthless and start having a bloody optical drive in them (that's the main reason I haven't purchased a netbook yet... I would still have to carry a portable DVD drive with me, and that's useless)?
2) When will we see one of these 'ultra thin' computers with a full-sized laptop keyboard on them (not a full 101-key, just the full laptop sized ones), since I can't type for crap on them and?
3) When are they going to realize that making use lean in even closer to the screen is not a feature, but rather a downside, and start pricing accordingly?

I don't need a computer that sacrifices what I need for size and weight, I'd rather carry a 5 pound laptop than a 3 pound netbook and 5 pounds of peripherals.
I don't need a computer that is so small that I need a magnifying glass to see what I've already typed out with the resolution set to 600x480. Oh, and I have to hack the OS to get down to that low a resolution in the first place. Or replace it with Linux.
I don't need to pay 500 USD for a netbook that has a screen less than 10" diagonal, when for 350 USD I can get a super cheap-o laptop om the Walmart 'holy crap, this thing is a pile of junk' special that has a reasonably sized monitor, about 4x as much ram, about 10x as much processor power, just as long of a battery life, and (my favorite part) an optical drive capable of both reading and burning both CDs and DVDs.
Oh, and let's not forget the fact that, unless I get one of the high quality name brands, such as Asus, my tech support will be virtually non-existent. And even with a higher quality brand name, such as Asus, the best I can probably hope for is that the first hour of my call to tech support will be spent screaming at an American rather than some guy in India or Pakistan who's English can be described as, being as kind as possible but still honest, worse than an autistic 2yr old's.
And let's not forget that I seem to always get a hold of that one idiot in every company that thinks that turning a computer on is more than 'normal usage' of the system, and thus the warranty is void. Five phone calls in a row. And, best of all, he remembers me.

Is this really what I'm going to cough up 900 USD or more for? I think not. The only people that REALLY want these damn things are 1) bimbos that think they are 'cute' 2) old people, who feel less intimidated by smaller pieces of technology and 3) corporations that don't understand the concept of "smaller isn't better just because the guy holding it says it is."

''wow,' <b>I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37" HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for.
