ASUS smartwatch chatted up by enigmatic Jonney Shih

This week the ASUS chairman Jonney Shih spoke up at the company's year-end party, making it known that he's got full confidence in the brand's next-generation wearable device. This wearable device will not necessarily be a smartwatch, but Shih's comments this week have suggested it'll go to war with the rest of the watches out there today anyway.

Shih suggested that ASUS will dedicate their "entire design thought" to the project, going on to note that this wearable device "should be" available for the public inside 2014. Words were shared with Focus Taiwan where they also translated the following:

"There are actually many challenges in this area, and I don't think products that lack special features will be useful. We'll try to replace your watch by all means." – ASUS chairman Jonney Shih

The first we heard of this push for wearables from the company was all the way back in November of 2013 during Computex Taipei. Since then we've seen nothing – in the public – as far as hardware, but we're to understand that a "distinctive" product is coming sooner than later.

An inside tip – to be found in the timeline of bits below – suggested that the ASUS wearable device will not be delivered before the first half of the year is over. Instead we'll likely see ASUS bring a smart device in time for the holiday season at the end of 2014.

Are you waiting for a wearable smart device that fits your personality? Do you have a smartwatch already, one you're perfectly satisfied with? Or are you not interested in wearable devices in the least?

NOTE: Just so you're aware, there've been suggestions recently that an Acer wearable device might be quickly approaching. As the names of the brands are so close, we want you to make certain you're seeing that both companies – separately – are planning on releasing smart wearable devices soon.
