One of the major requirements for a HTPC is silent operations, and the system noise usually comes from fans and other moving parts in computer such as optical drives. Asus introduced the HR-0205T, the quietest HD DVD drive in the market.
The drive operates at 21.1dB of noise when playing HD DVD and 23.7dB when playing a dual-layer DVD. The drive can be mounted horizontally or vertically and connects to PATA port. Asus utilize a PATA-SATA adaptor to allow the drive to connect to SATA port.
The HR-0205T supports 2.4X HD DVD ROM/2.4X HD DVD ROM(DL)/2.4X HD DVD-R Read, 5X DVD±R/ 5X DVD+RW/ 5X DVD-RW/ 5X DVD±R (DL), 15X CD-R/ 15X CD-RW; and 15X DVD-ROM/ 15X CD-ROM Read formats. The drive does not burn any media. No pricing information yet at this moment.

Who cares about noise? Nov2007 and we still cannot buy an HD DVD rom drive other than usb xbox? The morons at toshiba need to be shot!!!!!
