I haven’t found a shoulder strap case, but it does come with a case of its own with stands and it is pretty small and light that a strap would almost be pointless.

I purchased the Slate on Friday and am returning it today. The Battery life was the one thing that held me off and it is worse then stated. I barely got two hours out of it. I love the machine it is powerful and can do exactly what I want. However battery life is important to me, and I cannot make it work. Back to my old laptop Sony Vaio TZ-180N 4 years old getting 6 hours of battery life from the original battery, running CS5 and Office2010.

Yes it is. It is no different than any other windows machine. It support the remote desktop protocol. I’ve also installed VNC on mine and regularly connect to a LINUX machine.

Does anyone know if it is compatible for Remote Desktop Application, i need to be able to connect to my work server via it but when i rang Asus to find out they were not very helpful????

Been looking for just this!… i have been researching and searching for the perfet Tablet thats i can do Design work/Drawings.

The fact is comes with a Wacom touch sensative pen is the clincher…

I will be ordering it today!

Few points or “i wishes”..

Power issue. ok its low, but yes it portable. what Asus need to make (or third Party) is a Portable Charger. IE, Charger for the Lighter in the car or like in my car has the USB port. this would be great.

Somthing i really want..but of course is not going to happen for a long time..

Duel OS

turn it on, first thing you see is ” Please select – Windows or Android”

And Boom… you have it all… work when you need it, and when you just want to laze out. you have Android and its funk.

Saw the post android-86x, but very suspicious, unless i see somone else doing it first with ease :)

Another thing i read here was the PEN digitizer Issue… What no replacements? dam… i am sure they will sort this out right? (well heres hoping..)

eaither way.. This really is a great Tablet. pushing the TabletPC industy in the right direction.

Im not an Ipad Fan, nor an apple Fan, i dont own anything Apple… ok its nice for the Basic media, and games. but the fact that Apple already have this technology to make them better now, they dont, and they just keep releasing the same product, but with one or two additional add on, obviously for money ..its business….. but comone… dont treat your customers like sheep… Apple have already designed most of their proucts for the next 2 year++… but it trickles out.. buy the iphone 4 today, a week later the iphone5 comes out….And they way your locked in to using itunes program to load anything onto it.,..man….Drag and drop already!

Ipad was never an option for me… simplys, its a toy… not a business or graphics unit…

But Anyway…enough of my Rant about apple…

Asus have done it right….

I just bought the asus eee and loving it so far except for one thing. This is the second days of using it and the fan is getting way to noisy. I actually have to turn on the music to drown it out. Do you have the same problem with noisy fan? Is that common?

I’ve used live versions of Fedora 14 and it ran very well off of usb or SD cards. There is some messing around to get the touch screen not to behave like a track pad, but both touch and pen mostly work out of the box. Bluetooth and wireless both work flawlessly too.

Ubuntuu users have reported some problems, but I like me my fedora so I don’t care.

Not such and apples / oranges comparison. The i5 will turbo up to 1.86 GHz. These turboed frequencies are the only speeds apple lists on their site when talking about an i series processor, so that should be the speed used here. And I have yet to find a multi-threaded application that does not run 2x as fast using Hyper threading.

Yes, I mean why should ASUS or anyone even bother to make something “other than” the perfect thing that it the MAC Air. [nexgenmax] say is not a apple fanboy but owns an iphone AND an ipod, and the first thing that is compared to the EP121 is a MAC !

Come on, what “portable” do you know that does Photoshop+Illustrator for 6 hours ? But that would be also not good enough. I need one that does Photoshop+Illustrator+InDesign+Acrobat for 10 hours @ 100% CPU, while listening to some music of course. And make that under 1kg.

How can you make a definitive decision based on three specs that are almost identical??? You are of course missing the most important spec; the ASUS has a multi-touch screen and a pressure sensitive Wacom stylus, which means I can draw, paint, sculpt and write on the ASUS, and not on the MacBook Air. With everything else being almost equal this ability alone sets the ASUS well above the Air. A 12″ Wacom Cintiq screen and stylus is $1,000 by itself, no computer just the screen.

The EP121 has a dedicated keyboard button next to the power button that will bring up the on-screen keyboard at any time. Windows also has a feature (which can be disabled if you don’t like it) that pulls up the on-screen keyboard whenever you touch in a typable area.

It is an awesome device, definitely a work of art! You don’t need 3G because everyone already carries their phones around with them; just set up your phone as a mobile hotspot and you are ready to go with internet connection wherever you are. Works great for me.

I am right, there is no guesswork about it pejorative35. I own the ASUS EP121 and it’s fucking awesome compared to the iPad 2, which I also use. There is no comparison, these are two completely different categories of devices; Productivity and Content Creation vs. Entertainment Consumption.

This piece of art isn’t for boys willing to play with their father’s toys. It’s a computer, I mean with a real OS, not a phone with a huge screen! I don’t need 3G on it as I don’t need it on my netbook. You can have it in USB sticks, Wifi is more important. Working from home thru Citrix, wifi or a hotspot and you can go to the swimming pool with your kid and wife and still be connected to the office. An iPad can’t give me that. This piece of art is next on my list!

I think the GPS thing is not necessary for most of the people purchasing this tablet. I have GPS on my phone, as do most people. Are people that directionally challenged they need a 10 inch gps? Ever heard of mapquest, google maps, etc. etc. that is available over wifi?

I have an Acer TimelineX which is based on Intel i3 processor (they have i5 and i7 versions as well) and the battery is touted to last 8+ hours with proper settings. I routinely get 6+ hours of battery life running routine applications like firefox and notepad++. I use putty and Filezilla for stuff. Heavier apps are Visual Studio and Gimp (open source Photoshop clone). I have yet to get less than 4 hours of battery life no matter what I’m doing.

I use Outlook Calandar and Excel quite a bit, as well as remote desktop to access our store server in conjunction with Everest software. You can get MUCH longer battery life with this as well as any laptop running windows 7 by disabling the “flash” features, such as the glass effects, sidebar and that sort of stuff. I also turned off a lot of Windows services running that weren’t necessary for my needs, as well as turn off the wireless until I need it.

i guess that means you won’t be buying any laptop even with any sort of horsepower to actually do work….really people? battery technology is nowhere near providing 6+ hrs from a mobile computing device…guess you’ll be waiting a very long time to buy anything useful

When you say 5-6 hours, what programs are you running together? I am looking at this for PS & Illustrator together, but the reported 3 hour battery is putting me off
