The Eee Pad is a great tablet for educational and home use. It can be used for work and business but lacks some of the added functionality of the iPad or the Galaxy 10.1 in that department. The optional dock makes the Eee Pad the best choice in the productivity department
If you are in the market for a budget tablet, you should definitely take a look at the Transformer. If you are looking for a tablet to use as a harcore gaming system, the Eee Pad is not for you.Personally, I think the Eee Pad is the best tablet out there. It has so much conectivity and functionality with the dock and has some good specs as well.

To check out my full review of the Transformer(and other devices), go to: www.tech3point3.net.tc

I do not generally write reviews but this tablet is worth it. I have owned(and returned) and Motorola Xoom and have tested the Ipad 2. BOTH are nice devices for sure but a tad bit overpriced and I am not a huge fan of the boring iOS customization options. For $399 (Asus Transformer 16gb version) you get the 10 inch tablet, you get the Tegra POWER, the nice sound and the latest Android tablet operating system (honeycomb) which is the perfect combination.

Device feels very solid in hand, not too light, not too heavy, all of the apps from my previous Mytouch 4g work on the tablet and it functions very well. Battery life is GREAT, I set it to leave wifi on permanently without disconnecting and took it off the charger at 9pm yesterday, used it to tweet, browse and type a paper while listening to non stop music until about 1-2am. Woke up today at 9am, my new emails were synced and gtalk was running.....STILL had 69% left. It is now going on 1pm, i haven't used it much besides for my alarm clock and listened to another 10 songs and tweeted while i got ready for class and its sitting at 63% now.

PROS:
- Great Battery Life (Without the Keyboard dock's extra power source)
- Nice weight, does not feel cheap
- Android 3.0 for tablets is a great step forward to set it apart from everyone else just using the phone OS
- SPEED
- Can handle ALL tasks( Recreation, Games, Music, Work documents, homework, etc) My laptop has been put to rest since owning a table.... R.I.P.
- PLENTY of apps for everyone and everything you are interested in.
- Google talk video chat works like a charm
- Cameras take good quality pictures
- EASE OF USE

Cons:
- Not a fan of the placement of the speakers since they put them towards the bottom. My hands sometimes blocks them while holding the device but i can still hear the music just fine(even though not as loud)

- The charger is kinda short, that is acceptable but it seems like when you plug the Tablet to the computer it stops charging when you have the screen on, i found that a little strange. Safety reasons? im not sure.

Final Verdict: If you want a GREAT tablet that is affordable, has video chat, music, games, apps, full internet browsing abilities and PLENTY of customization options then this is your device! Easily replaced my new laptop, much lighter, better battery life and can do the same things...literally.

*** P.S. If you will buy this Tablet I suggest you have compare price before you decide at: www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Foffer-listing%2FB004U78J1G%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Ddp_olp_new%26condition%3Dnew%23&tag=slashgear.com-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Why should HD video on a 10" screen be so important that you believe it to be the tablet and not the movie format? I watch 1080 or 720 on my 52" sammy but I'm prety sure I won need that on a tablet. Maybe you're setting your expectations too high and just nee to see a few samples. Have a look at some different formats on your ipad and see if you can see huge differences from 480 - 720 - 1080. At least you'd be able to test them on the Asus in about 5 minutes after plopping in the sd card. Might take a few precious hours synching the ipad though. Hmmm wonder which sounds easier :-)

Why would you get an ipad then?

You'd get this as it offers more than an ipad (for me anyway) but has a huge battery life. If I want more then why bother with a netbook and have no cd/dvd etc and poor battery life? You might as well get a full blown laptop surely. And the you might as well just get a desktop as few folk actually go mobile with a laptop in my experience. These devices are the future.... and are close to offering thin client connectivity to the corporate world. So many uses its fantastic.

Forget 3g... it's not an issue. As an ipad, iphone user at work it's irrelevant. W all hook onto wifi and if you do need 3g then 1 personal mifi device or teyher to a moby is the way to go. Move on, forget individual mobile connectin costs and simply get 1 amalgamated service. Repeat.... nobody needs 3g unless they are heavy user on the road.

I love the 'has more connections'.... YES you can input films and music on the fly without needing to hook it onto YOUR itunes PC (hooking your ipad onto someone elses PC is a good way of wiping your ipad content). So yes it has way more than one solitary connector and is way more user friendly. And I imagine I can transfer photos from my camera whilst on holiday with a simple swap of card OR usb connection..... loads of plusses for me. This article sounds like its written by someone who loves their iPad and can't be quite objective enough to say if this is as good, or better in any respect. It definitely sounds better for my personal use.

Can it read passworded docs, zipped docs, etc..... you know the items the ipad cannot open? My android phone handles such items better thanmy ipad and I would be interested to know. Meantime as my ipad is corporate, little used, I do know this gizmo is looking good to prise my hard earned cash out of my wallet.

Excellent review, thanks! One small quibble though - this writer like so many others does not seem to realise the difference between a "rear-mounted" camera and a "rear-facing" camera, these are of course opposites. The rear-mounted camera is obviously front-facing so that it can take pictures like a normal camera, conversely the front-mounted camera is actually rear-facing, just like the rear-view mirror in a car. If you need to prove it take a device like a tablet or a mobile phone and hold it up next to your rear-view mirror....simples!

The honeycomb interface is by far the best in the industry unlike the dumb down iPad. Is Android 3.0 going to get better with the update to Android 3.1? You better believe it. Android did not catch on till Android 2.1 on phones and I expect the same with Android 3.1 on tablets. But the foundation that Google has put together in Honeycomb, blows the dumb down iPad to bits. Honeycomb is truly an OS that I can see my self throwing all my PC stuff out and replacing it with an ASUS Eee Transformer. The Apps and updates to the OS will catch up within months and only continue to get better.

Great job Google and ASUS. Android openness and competition is great and it shows in innovative products like the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer..

Which netbook can you detach the keyboard from when it isn't required and to save weight? Some functions work better when you can easily switch from portrait to landscape (such as reading PDFs) or having the ability to use touch for zooming and scrolling. But at the same time it's nice to have the option of a physical keyboard, extra ports and battery (which will charge the tablet when docked). The display is also a pretty nice, crisp IPS panel with very good viewing angle whereas on most netbooks the screens are usually merely average (albeit more glossy than most netbook screens to offset its higher resolution of 1280 x 800).

There are still going to be times when a full blown Windows laptop or netbook will be a better option it just depends on your requirements. You do also have the option to use the remote desktop client for accessing another PC/Mac that comes pre-loaded (Splashtop).

@Dargo84, As a slick responsive experience with the biggest choice of optimised apps the iPad is hard to beat. Having said that there's room for tablets like the Asus transformer as well. You only get GPS on the 3G enabled iPad 2 for example. Notifications could do with improvement (though this will invariably come with iOS 5). Plus connectively is more limited, sometimes involving extra expense for a proprietary external dongle (in the case of hdmi output to a larger display for example). The more limited choice of fully optimised apps is bound to change over time. Look how quickly Android has grown generally. Especially since many of the tasks that someone might use a tablet for are well catered for; Internet browsing, reading (with the likes of the kindle or Adobe reader), e-mail, facebook and twitter clients for example. Games are also growing for the Tegra 2 platform courtesy of the Nvidia Tegra Zone. A big advantage with the iPad is the availability of accessories for just about anything you can imagine.

iOS is a little dumbed down as an experience - that doesn't make it a bad thing (it's part of how they're able to provide the best battery life with all the bits including OS able to work well together) and provide a tablet that anyone whatever age or experience can just pick up and use. Just that it's harder or impossible to do some things if you stray outside of the Apple infrastructure. Flash playback being one of them - there's still a number of web-sites that I visit where I've found it would be hard to lose this (- you can make the loading of flash content optional which is certainly useful for avoiding the loading of adverts to reduce battery drain).

That's not to say that the Honeycomb OS couldn't do with some more polish - it's still a little 'work in progress' in places one of those being video playback. Some stuff will never work until Tegra 3 namely 1080p H.264 high profile video. But 720p H.264 high profile and 1080p H.264 main profile 'ought' to work just that it's lacking Tegra 2 dual core optimisation right now. So step up Google!

At the end of the day, having choice and additional competition is great (and apology for the long post which went on more than planned *s*)
