ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 1.4GHz overclock released

ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer is turning into quite the hackers' dream, and now the Tegra 2 slate has been coaxed into offering an extra slap of speed. Netarchy over at xda-developers has released Netformer 1.2, a tool that – among other things – can overclock the Transformer from its 1GHz stock speed to 1.4GHz.

User reports from those brave enough to try it suggest the Eee Pad simply flies when the clock speed is ramped up. HD video plays back without any lag, and the YouTube app is similarly streamlined. Quadrant benchmarking – with the ASUS mods removed – suggest scores as high as 4900, more than double what we were seeing from the stock Transformer. Linpack, meanwhile, came in at 59.414 MFLOPS, versus 42.233 out of the box.

On the downside, it's less stable than stock Honeycomb, and that means you may encounter a few crashes along the way. Some tasks regularly lock up, and there are reports of screen-wake issues (that apparently go away if you opt for a more conservative 1.2GHz overclock). Still, we're guessing these will be ironed out some over the next few weeks.
