ASUS Eee Pad Transfomer may be first Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet

ASUS has confirmed that its popular Eee Pad Transformer tablet as well as its upcoming Transformer 2 would both be getting the just announced Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update very soon. Considering how quickly ASUS updated to Honeycomb 3.2 following its release, this early confirmation could make the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer the first tablet to run Ice Cream Sandwich.

At last night's unveiling event, the interface was only demoed on the Galaxy Nexus, so it'll be interesting to see how smoothly it transitions on to the larger tablet screen now that the platform has been designed to run on smartphones, tablets, and likely Google TV, although that was not specifically mentioned.

Google's head of Mobile, Andy Rubin, has already confirmed that the Ice Cream Sandwich update would roll out a couple weeks after the Galaxy Nexus, which is planned for an early November launch. That leaves a possible update in the December or early 2012 time frame as confirmed for the Motorola DROID RAZR.

ASUS was not able to give a more specific schedule at this stage but did confirm that the Transformer 2 tablet it recently teased in a YouTube video would be getting the new Android update as well.
