Are 5% of Android users really switching for the iPhone 6?

I'm not sure if you're aware, but Apple is just about ready to unveil the next iPhone — and it's a big deal (pun intended). At 4.7-inches, the iPhone 6 wants to appeal to customers who like bigger smartphones. Many of those folks are Android users, who already enjoy a myriad of devices with large screens. According to a new survey, a small but notable portion of Android users are set to buy the iPhone 6 when it comes out.Survata says that about 5% of Android users will probably make the move to the iPhone 6. As it stands, that means roughly 50 million users could be "very likely" to snap up an iPhone 6 on release. 50 million users at roughly $750 would represent $37.5 billion in revenue for Apple.

When you factor in all those Android fans who say they're at least interested in switching over, the total hits about 17.5%. Survata's questions didn't have a traditional "yes, maybe, or no" scenario, though. They're line of questioning is more vague, with options like "somewhat likely" or "very likely". The sample audience was also 889, accomplished via pop-ups on sites asking that visitors take a survey. Those who took the survey reported which platform they were currently using, too.

As for the iOS users, about 36% of iPhone 5 owners said they'd buy the iPhone 6, while 18% of iPhone 5S owners will be making the screen size upgrade.

It's an interesting metric this survey provides. To scale, this 5% Android attrition could be big for Apple, and have little impact on Android, especially as it spreads to emerging markets where Apple is unlikely to venture.

We want to know what you think, though. Are you interested in the iPhone 6? If not, what would make you want one? Let us know in the comments section below!
