ARBOR Tech M1255 Atom-based 12.1-inch touchscreen slate

Of the Atom-based touchscreen tablets, the ASUS Eee PC T91 is probably the best known.  If you want a slate-format device, though, your choices are more limited; the upcoming CrunchPad is supposedly based on Intel's Atom N270, but until that drops in November you'll have to head over to ARBOR Tech.  Their new M1255 packs the Atom N270 together with a 12.1-inch resistive touchscreen, 1GB of RAM, 60GB hard-drive and WiFi a/b/g.

There's also a 2-megapixel webcam, four USB 2.0 ports, gigabit ethernet, a barcode scanner, RFID reader, serial and VGA ports, together with a fingerprint scanner.  The display runs at 1024 x 768 resolution, and the whole thing measures 25mm thick and weighs 1.6kg with its 3.5hr battery.

As you might have guessed from the screenshots, the M1255 is an MCA (mobile clinical assistant), intended for medical use in hospitals and clinics.  It's fully sealed and vent-free, but with no price listed – and the cost of MCAs usually far exceeding their consumer counterparts – we wouldn't hold out much hope for this competing with the CrunchPad for a space in your living room.
