Heh, the Jobsian push for aesthetics, and the resultant fallout, is legendary. I think one late model AppleII did not have a fan because Jobs did not like their noise. End result was that the board would overheat and warp, popping the components loose. The tech support quick fix, if you did not want to ship it back to them, lift it a couple of inches from the desk and drop it. And the Mac Cube had its troublesome button because Jobs nixed the use of a ordinary switch.

Yep, it is all about shortcircuiting the thought process and get people to go all emotional. And given what one can observe online, it seems to work incredibly well. Btw, this is something that has been going on in one form or other since the 1920s. This was when industry found itself with a production capacity well in excess of demand thanks to WW1. And so they started employing psychology to try and bypass ration considerations of need, and appeal straight to instinctual wants. Apple just seems to be the most effective employer of such in the tech world, but markets like fashion and cars have been doing it for a very long time.

However, it's likely this "room" also has thermoform, industrial laser cutter and 3d printer for rapid prototyping the plastic bits and testing their fit.. have one of those in moms basement too?
