Sure it will do nothing after an extensive play, cause it's a stable and very well customized OS, while Android will add the joyous lags and bugs, are these what are you missing on iOS ?
Cause yes, children don't like lags and bugs, they love to enjoy the good playing.

Wow, are you in for a rude awakening. Google "iPhone BOM" - it's barely a few dollars more than other flagship phones. It's just the markup that Apple charge that is so impressive, innovative and extramazolutioning.
In terms of dropping the thing - I think you have it wrong, iPhone 5 *maybe*, but the others? sheaaa, right!

If an iPad mini + cellular can sell for $459 so can an iPhone. i don’t care if my broken iPhone screen is retina or not, i’d rather replace it, and not worry about dropping again. a high price don’t add value, or make it more desirable, it’s a tool not a fashion accessory, i think the Mac line is great value, not including MacPro, and feel good about throwing money Apple when upgrading, but for something that is dropped, used in the rain/snow where i live that accounts for 8-9 months a year, it just gives me headaches.

as much as i love iPhones im tired of replacing them, in our little household of 4, we have gone through 9 iPhones since launch...

I don’t need taggy glass on the back of my phone, i’d rather have something esthetic, in any material that can’t shatter no matter how often i drop it.

The only features i would value as worth more in an iPhone would be 3D and E-Sense tactile feedback, the extra MHz and pixels i can do without, my thumbs cover most of them anyway

I'm sure Apple's management has entertained the idea, but I'm skeptical it'll ever happen. They can save on advertising and distribution costs by just continuing to sell the 4S and the 3GS at lower prices. No need to chase after a market it already has a spot in unless it wants to start selling plastic unlocked iPhones for $350 which would have very low margins up front. They wouldn't do this without a guarantee they could recoup those lost margins from their apps store. They'd actually be following Google's cue by doing so as Google does exactly that with its Nexus line.

It's never been in their DNA to compete for the lower-end market, at least not until recently. Even then, the price discount you see going from the higher end to lower end items as seen in the Macbook Air and the iPad weren't all that great. Of course, one could point to the way the iPhone is being offered to prepaid markets as a counterexample or at least an indicator of a new trend.

Time will tell.
