I was browsing trying to find 4s reviews when I came across this article. The article itself didn’t I interest me in any way, but then I read the comments…. Do y’all realize you’re arguing about PHONES? It’s amusing people get worked up about this stuff.

I’ve got both as well, and my iPhone locks and crashes slightly more than my Android actually. My friend got a 4s on Thursday and already has had it freeze a few times. Neither are perfect, the iPhone does not “just work” all the time.

Most of the time though I’ll agree the experience is more integrated and smoother. With some downloading though (as this article) states you can get much the same experience. Some would say that’s too much work. Others would say it’s fun and you can actually get more out of Android.

And looking at sales numbers, well there’s one iPhone vs. many Androids so it’s not a fair comparison. But overall, there’s a lot more Android phones, so sales numbers, i’d say +1 Google.

Dude you need to get your lips off Apples ass. Not responding errors do come up but not as frequently as you say they do. jcStratbo has given you a good example, read if you’re capable of it.
The iPhone “just works” to all you people who cant go beyond grazing through grids and grids of icons, not to mention one big static homescreen.
How is Android not up to Apples level? As far as im concerned the latest iOS and iPhone were catch ups thrown by Apple not “further progress”. Also is that why they’re trying to stifle competition by means of patent laws?Just shows as to how many of you sheep are there eh? ;)When high end Android phones crushed the iPhone 4 you idiots were under your beds hiding, now you jump up and down to the 4S, what are you gonna do in a couple of months when the next generation of Android OS/phones led by Nexus Prime B&%$!slaps your 4S? :PYes have a good night, while you can lol :D

The security hole has really only affected those that have rooted their phones, or downloaded apps from sources other than the Market. And I’ve had an HTC phone for a year, and have had regular updates. I realize I may be one of the fortunate, but it’s a gross generalization on both sides to assume that because some don’t get updates, that everyone has the problem.
That being said, the article never said that these compete with the iPhone features. It’s trying to provide matching features. And frankly, other than Siri, there’s nothing new about the iPhone. Siri is the clear standout feature. Vlingo is basically voice to text, or voice command. But there is no conversational aspect to the software (although, I suppose that’s bound to happen at some point now). The biggest problems with anyone posting problems with iPhone products or Android phones is that their use scenario may not match others. I hate when we see generalizations for one brand or another. Some phones aren’t up to the same task (which is Android’s biggest problem with offering different hardware. Although ICS has more strict hardware requirements, which should theoretically resolve some of that.
P.S. I’m not saying you are making gross generalizations…others have; your post just grabbed my attention and this is whee I replied! Hope you don’t mind. :)

Haha….this reminds me of when the first iPhone came out and there were guides on how to make a paper cut out of an iPhone…if people don’t understand what integration means, then it explains why iOS is actually the most advanced OS out there…a feature list that keeps integration tight and the user experience smooth…well done Apple…so far at least…

This seems true…but if you go to any consumer electronics store, you’ll see dozens of cellphones and one iPhone…at most 3…thats how it’s always been since the beginning…say that it’s fair ground for each is just not true…we’ll see how these 4S sales affect the smartphone market share..

Hardware and software need to work together to help with the ease of use…if newer hardware could make the software work better, then by all means, I prove the hardware…if not, then stay with what works or find an alternative….saying playing catch up might be the android’s universe’s way of pointing out that the 4S is the first dual core iPhone…it doesn’t help that the new iPhone is faster and smarter than what’s available in the market…no because of hardware alone…but because of the fellowship between software and hardware. That’s where android misses it but iOS and for some reason Wp7 is getting it…

Wait…in your first point you said that they were careful not to mention that the feature isn’t available outside the US…yet, on the apple site, it clearly says that the feature is going international in 2012….is thinking really difficult for you?

Your next point is probably the closest thing to being intelligent…but you do realize that apple specifically points out which models would be supported by each new software update…it’s 3 generations of iPhones, so at least 3 full years of support before the hardware becomes outdated…this is stated every where and isn’t news…the fragmentation issue with android is worse because even among devices that are supported, it could take anywhere from weeks to months before the final leg for pushing updates via carriers is completed…maybe you should think before typing…or shut up…

The point is that megapixels alone do not define the quality of pictures taken with a camera…we see this all the time with cellphones…there’s been a 10 MP shooter since 2007 if I remember correctly…there are other things besides that number that makes the camera system better…it’s just like how a CPU with a lower clock speed isn’t necessarily slower than another one with a high clock speed. Actual performance matters…if two cameras are pretty much identical and one has more megapixels, then with enough illumination, the one with more megapixels would be better…but that’s only when comparing cameras within the same/similar niche…

Your logic is faulty. If you have an infinite amount of iPhones and an infinite amount of Android phones it doesn’t matter if the former was made by one company out of 5 models and the latter out of 20 manufacturers with 150 models. How and by whom they were produced simply doesn’t matter. The fact of the matter is that near 50 % decide to pick up anAndroid phone out of the infinite stock, 30 % an iphone.

No system is perfect, but I don’t notice much superiority for iOS in my daily use. On the other hand, Swype alone makes me prefer using my smartphone for typing longer texts over my iPad 2. Apple might include good software, butnif you prefer to do thing outside of Apple’s defined path or want to use a superior way to do things not yet included in iOS you are SoL.

Google’s marketing department is fine. They are a DIFFERENT type of company than Apple.

The original poster is very foolish (still) to bring up a phone from 2008 that isn’t eligible for the 2011 operating firmware. I use ROM Manager premium on my Nexus One and it’s a horrible experience compared to my iPhones. Before I got a Nexus One, I thought long and hard about which Android phone would get ongoing support from Google. Even then, I’ve been disappointed with support. Android manufacturers really want to dump you in 6 months and NEVER give a major revision. That’s how it’s always been for handsets.

So, even after Google got tacit support for 18 months of updates with every phone, handsets are still being orphaned months later. And for good reason. It’s a lot of money to support so many devices and update them all. Just take HTC and that recent security hole reported by Android Police.

But, you’re right. No platform is perfect, but Android isn’t even trying to be. Apple on the other hand, is. Hopefully Ice Cream Sandwich could change all th is and be the first Android firmware with end-user features that really make a difference to people.

Vlingo sucks, text by voice, a new android app,works much MUCH better.. when It’s servers aren’t clogged… Kills your bat. All this Vlingo noise served only as a great reminder to.delete it. VLingo is on ios as well, Im guessing if it was all that, it would make Siri redundant.

About the only agreeable thing here is dolphin, which is a great browser.

Dude. Ur missin the point. The 3G is three plus years old! The htc pico was just announced. You are saying the iOS platform is fragmented. Technically yes. But compared to android it’s no comparison. Im just saying that I would expect a 3 year old device to have some limitations. In fact I am glad it does! It means the software is advancing quickly. But for the average consumer who buys an android and is expecting to have that phone for two years. I would think they deserve to have to latest software thru the life of the phone. Maybe at the end a few features won’t work but atleast gimme the latest OS.

Really? So for example the HTC pico which was announced sept 18 2011 with it’s single core 600 MHz processor, 3.2 inch screen, 480×320 res and 384 mb of ram will be able to run ICS? Don’t kid yourself. There’s plenty of low end android phones out there that firmware wise cannot give you the full android experience.

If you know that carriers withhold upgrades, then you’ve answered your own question. Its not that the hardware can’t handle Google’s updates, its simply carriers not wanting to shell out the cash for this service and Google not forcing them to do so.

Google is one of the greatest innovative companies in the world. For good reason, it challenges Apple and the two force each other to become better. But Google is also the stupidest. And the number one failing is proper marketing. This single area, if continued to be left unchecked, will be the reason for it being considered not as good as iPhone. Google has billions of dollars. Hire a marketing department.

I use both OS and love them. But they each have their flaws.

I agree with most of what you said except the part about integration. Whoever designs an app for Android can fully integrate that app into the OS to allow access to anything. Google fails at MARKETING! As long as they continue to allow carriers and manufactorers to badly promote their OS, they will never appear to have the “cool” apps or newest technology. Which is sad because they have a lot of interesting ideas.

Now if only Apple would give me a 4inch screen….then I would be completely happy with both OS’s.

You forget that it is written (at least I assume) partially to balance out the iPhone 4S articles that have been plastered across technology blogs everywhere. There is no bias in saying ‘there is very good documentation to indicate that what person X alleged is in fact false. *These* existed before that, with much popularity’. Mentioning that information isn’t bias- its telling the truth. Notice he is being charitable by not mentioning the shortcomings of iOS, and when it is unavoidable, skirting around them? In fact, he is critical of Android in mentioning the lack of fuzzy logic in any of the voice recognition apps, certainly not avoiding any shortcomings. We /could/ interpret this as a sign of pro-Apple bias. That or avoid the whole pointless, dim exercise and actually address what he’s saying with something more useful than ‘you’re biased. Tell me what I want to hear’.

Android does have voice control, just like Siri. But where Google fails is on integration. Siri is fully integrated into iOS unlike Voice control or any other 3rd party app. That’s what Apple haters (namely, Android tech heads) never understand. Apple didn’t invent Siri, or the MP3 player, or the smart Phone, they just have the vision and foresight to make it usable in the most straight forward, simple and user friendly way. It’s where they always succeed and it’s why people love their stuff. Android is not a bad OS by any means, but the name gets tarnished when an Android fan boys can’t wrap their heads around the fact that hardware specs, customization or OS marketshare doesn’t win against ease of use.

The mere fact that you have to tell us all about speaktoit says a lot about the difference between Apple & Android. How long has speaktoit been out for? Where were the queues to get a speaktoit enabled phone? How many users does it have? Who the hell walks around talking into their speaktoit app?
