I doubt that News Corp. was expecting instant profitability. Gannett lost money on USA Today for fifteen years before seeing a dime. Establishing a new franchise is a long, slow slog through red ink.

But they have to try these things. Every dead-tree newspaper company is going slowly out of business. They either figure out how to pay journalists from revenue collected online, or “journalist” will join “buggy whip maker” in the graveyard of lost occupations.

I’d guess that the business plan for The Daily showed losses through at least the first five years. Expecting anything else would be silly.

It should have over 80%. Actually I’m surprised it isn’t higher.

Of course, we deal with the fact that the Motorola Xoom and Galaxy Tab are vastly over-priced products that do NOT have the latest offering of Google’s OS.

So, yeah, they are going to have more of the market (for as much of a market as there is). As the prices drop and features increase you’ll see a significant increase in Android tablet use that seriously cuts into that iOS lead.

No surprise about how well the iPad is selling, I mean with everything you can do. I watch TV on mine all the time especially during the playoffs. I honestly use it for all of my daily activities, bills, emails and such obviously, setting recordings for my receiver, watching TV. It’s just brilliant.

I was actually going to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, then I realized even I rather have an iPad 2. I love Android on my Nexus One… buttttt I just feel as if I rather have an iOS tablet. Something about the iPad makes you “want” it.

I’m also not seeing a reason to get an Android tablet. It doesn’t seem worth it. I’m about to sound like a typical iPad user here; but it has thousands of lovely tablet optimized apps, a beautiful design, lovely UI, and so forth. I also love how Honeycomb looks — I adore the futuristic TRON-ish feel it has going on. But as I said before, the iPad makes you just want it… I have also never been an app person, but stuff like Garageband could easily make me switch.
