Apple's iCloud Trademark Filing in Europe Timed Flawlessly

As you MAY have heard multiple times, Apple very obviously plans on releasing information on their new "iCloud" service in the very near future (aka WWDC.) What you may NOT know is that they, just yesterday, filed the name iCloud with the European Trademark Office under application 010011484. This trademark was filed under 12 distinct International Classes including all of the following headers: digital music by telecommunications, electronic storage, online social networking services, multimedia content for a fee or pre-paid subscription, computer software, electronic books and magazines, entertainment, photographic services, business management and advertising services, games, headgear and digital devices/computers. That's a lot of meat!

This is all part of the plan, Steve Jobs announcing the service like the peak of an oncoming wave next week at WWDC, you can bet. Yesterday's Computex 2011 keynote featuring Intel's Executive Vice President Sean Maloney literally noted that "There's Money in the Cloud!" He noted that everything from storage to the entertainment industry (movies, shows, music,) were about to come at the consuming world like a bat out of heck.

Maloney went on to say that one new Intel-based server is needed for approximately every 600 new smartphones and/or 122 new tablets connecting to the internet, this of course adding up VERY quickly. It's no mistake that Apple will be jamming the excellence of their oncoming cloud service into the arena next week. Having Apple's "Home Sharing" service from any device anywhere in the world connected to the cloud is certainly going to be enticing.

Now this particular European trademark application has a few details in it that are of interest, but the bigger situation is by far the most important of course. An note of interest is that Apple's priority filing for iCloud was done all the way over in Jamaica (application number 057024) on December 07, 2010 – an insanely long time ago for this news to have been kept secret until now.

NOTE: have a look at analyst Ben Bajarin's article from today entitled I trust the cloud – do you?
