Dude. Coll. there are 1000 more things in the world to get upset over. I also disagree with his use of the Star Trek example (although the latest Start Trek looks like it was influenced by Apple), I think your rant looks even more ridiculous.

Keep on topic and please and don’t pollute the online community with unintelligent Village people rants.

On topic – I read into the caution for Apple being on the defense. Their iPad mini was an acknowledgement that they needed to hurry up and get into the tablet space that others beat them to. This shows an “iMustFollow” role, which is causing investors to wonder if Apple lost its ability to innovate and introduce NEW product categories.

Yeah I agree with the writer. Apple products are leading in today’s market. You can’t really judge their products if you haven’t used them. I’ve used some of them and I can testify to the quality of their products. I’ve compared their products to others and very rarely experience complications while using their devices.

It’s not hard to accept that “you can’t believe I just said that”. It’s obvious from your first post and consequently your second, that you’re an idiot. I’m confused? I quoted you. It was clearly your argument that since they sold so many that that translated into them being excellent products. You also seem to think that people are only put off Apple because of affordability. You are partly right but not for the reasons you think you are. The hardware you find in a Mac in the same you find in a windows PC. Most people use there computers for internet tasks, videos, music and games. So I ask.. Why would someone pay twice as much for a computer that doesn’t do those things any better? Windows market share went from 84% to 82% this year. I think you should look up the meaning of the word “droves” But if you want to pay an extra $600 for an OS.. then you go right ahead. There’s one born every minute and you sound like you’ve been counted more than once.

You make the common mistake of confusing “popular” (in the context of figures I quoted) with “most I could afford on my budget at that time”. Is this same Windows ‘popularity’ you talk about the reason why people are abandoning the platform in droves, in favour of smarter and better alternatives like Linux and Google that have become available in more recent times? Not to mention the hundreds of millions of other (Apple) users prepared to pay premium prices rather than volunteer to act as PAYING beta testers.

I used to pay for the privilege of being a Windows crash-test dummy myself once, so don’t get me started on the wonders of the Windows ME and Vista OS’s or I’ll have very long night ahead of me.

Ok, fair enough. To be honest I stopped reading after the iPhone part. I don’t mind honest appraisal but the story was over the top. I will give credit where credit is due (iPhone is a good phone, up with the best, iPad 4, best out there.) But I don’t like reading over the top pro apple product comments, especially when they wish to praise Apple’s not so good products, like they are outstanding.(iPad mini). Maybe when the next iteration of iPad mini comes out with better hardware, it might be worthy of the praise he gave it. Yes I was a bit harsh for not reading the article throughout.

This writer is correct that this year will be remembered but he’s got the reasons all wrong! If anything, this year will be remembered as the begining of Apples long slow slide into irrelevance!
- a new leader who is not well liked and who makes poor decisions.
- a new fragile feeling, strange looking, scuffprone, beta sofware filled iphone that was so bad that it had to be discounted early after it’s release because it was being outsold by last years iphone!
- a growing and self imposed reputation of pettiness and greed brought on by ridiculous lawsuites over patents for ideas/inventions that were never theirs to begin with.
- Finally, after trying for years, winning a significant court case only to have it mired in so much controversy and corruption that it amounts to a complete embarrasment for the american legal system.
- having the same patents they used to win a very tainted victory in court promptly invalidated by the USPTO causing even more scorn and ridicule to be heaped on what was already considered an absolute farce of a trial.
- showing their hypocrisy has no bounds by building a bigger phone and a smaller tablet even though previous versions were said to be “the perfect size” when criticizing the competitions own…you guessed it..bigger phones and smaller tablets!
- the abandoned “it just works” philosophy confirmed by yet another release of buggy beta software. First with siri and now with maps!
- the abandoned reputation as a premium manufacturer of leading edge tech by releasing products with 2 year specs(ipad mini)and keeping on the market 2 year old phones(iphone 4).
Last but not least is a huge 20% decrease in stock value brought about by these things and: the fact that the competition has caught up and surpassed them, their most profitable products are stuck with a 5 year old and very stale UI with no refresh in sight and no new ground breaking products on the horizon either.

And I didn’t say any of their products were perfect, that the iPhone 5 was better than the equally nice GS3, and I agree that Apple Maps weren’t their err … finest moment? In fact, given that nobody lost money buying their map service you could say that the most damage they did here was to embarrass themselves and give us all a few laughs.

However, you didn’t seem to notice the author was equally critical about this and a few other minor issues (“… reduced potential for easy updates … Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 conspicuously absent .. consumers more critical in support AND complaints …”).

So essentially I agree with all the points you made — the second time around. And perhaps you’re not an MS fanboy in real life, but “who wrote this garbage … shares in Apple … one hand on his dick while typing … oooooh Apple … ooooh swallow this” and you didn’t expect to come ACROSS as one? Seriously?

And people standing in lines to buy iProducts doesn’t show any particular year’s success. It shows that the platform over all has reached industry leading and brand name status, regardless of the particular iteration of that product.

I don’t like the surface as well. If he started that the iPad 4 as the best tablet, I would agree totally. Awesome bit of kit, no doubt. The iPhone 5 is good, but its not the very best phone out there. On equal par to the Samsung GS3, yes, better no. And yes, the quality of build and the use of easily scratch and easily dent materials let the iPhone down. Maps is just down right nasty for the quality we expect from apple. Lots of little problems with the iPhone but no worse than any other top tier phone.

Amen to that! Why, the world’s biggest company only sold 125,040,000 of its fault-filled iPhones and 58,230,000 underpowered, low resolution, fantasy iPads in 2012.

If you want TRUE innovation, you just can’t beat Microsoft. Its new Surface has advanced personal computing another fifty years with an amazing kickstand that makes incredibly sexy clicking sounds when you open/close it. Just turn on the TV news to see the riot police trying to keep order as crowds of people queue up to buy one (or a Windows phone)…

Reality must really suck for Microsoft fanboys, and watching you squirm just makes my day when I need a few laughs. LOL!

Apple’s 2012 was a huge failure in my book. Sure the sales were there but frankly Apple is so incredibly high that even when they fall they are much higher up than the competition.

Apple Maps was a joke. No need to further explain there. releasing the iPad 4 so soon after the 3 was pretty much like spitting in the face of everyone who bought the 3. The iPad mini was a non-retina tablet at 7+ inches made by a company who said that a tablet smaller than 9.7 inches without as high a resolution (nexus 7, kindle fire, etc) is a failure. The iPhone 5 was a phone with the incredible innovation of an extra row of icons rather than doing anything interesting with the extra real estate. And it scratches just by looking at it.

I saw some true innovation under Steve Jobs and like Apple or hate them, It pulled off an incredible feat by going from a nearly bankrupt company (saved by anti trust laws) to the largest company on the planet. Under Cook it seems Apple is just riding on its value without really adding to it. And if Microsoft has taught us anything its that no one stays on top forever unless they bring their A game each and every year.
