Refurb iPad 2 is $349 and I suspect the iPad 2 will see a price drop for Xmas. It’s pretty damn hard to compete with that, although I will fully admit missing flash on rare occasions. (Mainly, porn.)

They simply don’t count then. Google and Microsoft yield nothing from them, and the apps will likely be sideloaded (pirated.)

Besides, nothing sells an iPad better than a low end android tablet.

Just to correct something here, Apple’s insane profits come from the huge margins they have on hardware. Apple software/iTunes/app store is relatively break even I believe.

You think market domination is about operating systems? HA!

Many of those who buy an iPhone or iPad probably have MS PC’s & on those they have a little thing called iTunes. The online retail ecosystem that’s been feeding the biggest appetites of media consumption through music, movies, TV & apps.

You think all Apple’s money is coming from the small margins of profit via hardwares sales? All their devices are just means of increasing the reach of iTunes.

One horse race as in: People focusing on one horse and (essentially) ignoring the other ones, which could be close behind, on par, or in front.

I would say most people around me have Apple in their vision. But, they are oblivious to what else is out there.

“The iPhone is the only phone I need to look at.”
“The iPad is the only tablet I need to look at.”
“— Mac is the only computer I need to look at.”

/But/ the people who do look and see what the other horses are up to, tend to not get — Apple product (around me). I have had friends who looked left and right and ended up picking up a Galaxy Nexus, Titan, etc.. over an iPhone 4S because they saw that these horses “passed” Apple. The 4S was a nice phone, but it was falling behind these phones.

When there is a focus on one horse, the other horses tend to not exist, even when they are sneaking up, on par, or passing that horse.

But when the focus is broken on that one horse and there begins to be the realizing that the other horses are sneaking up, on par, or passing that horse, suddenly, reality begins to kick in that horse may not be the best out there.

When you have the best selling smartphone by far and all the other smartphones behind it are blatant copycat ripoffs I guess you could say you are in the lead. Google is lucky they haven’t been completely shut down for the crime that is Android.

Apple is doing well but calling it a one horse race is complete hyperbole. Overall Apple has less market share than other OSes and in the smartphone market is neck and neck with Samsung. I wish people and the media would stop glorifying Apple as if it’s the only tech company that exists.
