iPhone at $199? You must be high. iPhone is $199 with $450 worth of subsidies = $649. And iPhone has the biggest margin on all Apple’s devices. iSuppli speculate that Apple’s margin is %225 (BOM ~$200 and $450 margins). iPad has a much lower margin of about 66.67%

They can keep the prices same easily. This move is all about profits, not consumers and definitely not suppliers.

“I am sure that Apple wants to protect margins and that is part of the reason for demanding cuts.”They want to increase their margins – that is a different story. Though not unusual, when orders are in millions of units per month… 10% is not a big price cut in component procurement. It’s rather average.

Before he got rich off Apple Computer, Steve Jobs screwed Wozniak out of $2150 1970s dollars that Wozniak was rightfully owed from an engineering job he and Jobs did for Atari. That’s over $10,000 in today’s dollars. You can say this particular story being true would take their greed to a new level, but I think Steve already has. The man is, and always was, a shamelessly greedy individual.

If he’s willing to do that kind of thing to his cash-strapped college friends just barely scraping by you can bet he’d be willing to force a 10% discount from his company’s faceless suppliers.

WTF? this has to be a joke. There is no way this article is real. Nobody is making money off Iphones except Apple. Foxcomm keeps having losses because they haven’t figured out how to make money on making Ipads and Apple has the balls to ask suppliers for price cut on products they make 30% margins on ?

I don’t believe this story. That would take their greed to a new level.
