I’d be surprised if HTC makes any Windows Phones because they want to. They pour far more resources into their Android handsets, and my guess is that they develop Windows Phones to avoid any anti-trust lawsuits.

One thing to have brand loyalty, another to be a brand zealot. I have used an iPad (mother’s), and iPhone (also mother’s), and iPod 4g (jailbroken. Mine until I sold it). They worked fine. Never used an Android based device, but will probably like it better as I do dabble in Linux and like the ability to customize anyway I feel like, especially w/custom ROMs…also affordability. It does not matter which you support, Apple, Google, Microsoft, HTC, Samsung, etc. You will buy what you can afford and prefer to use, the companies care little, as long as you continue to hand them cash. They will only do the minimal necessary to inspire brand loyalty so you continue to buy their products. So many empty posters, ranting and raving…

They were Google’s biggest manufacturing partner for Android in the beginning and undoubtedly have a lot of influence in how it’s developed over time. They’ve been very supportive of the rom hacking community (to varying degrees over time), which is highly unusual, even unheard-of. I really liked the optical joystick on some of their phones although I haven’t seen any recent ones that have this. I think they had the first handset with a 3D screen and camera, at least outside of Japan. I’m guessing there are other things that I and the public at large don’t know about as well.

But that is EXACTLY what Apple did – 53% of Apple’s smartphone/iOS related patents are from company acquisitions!!! Face it – almost every company has done that. Nokia did, IBM did, Google did, Apple did. The patent system sucks.. tough luck. All companies are busy acquiring other companies that already have the ‘good’ patents.

So, despite what Apple would like to have you believe, no, Apple didn’t invent everything. (Apple didn’t create the universe either)

practically everything was a pre-existent element from a minor private developer that caught enough attention and then adopted by the big dogs. This is the inevitable evolution of technology, whether apple did it first or not, it would have came about within the next year or two. I’ve sat here with my android phone and watch the OS & Mftr Skins grow with implementations that were made popular by the community of custom ROMs

maybe you should take a step back and glance around at all the technology around you.
When companies like Apple & Google grow as big as they do, they hardly start anything anymore, they just buy up the little guy’s innovations & expose it to the mass market.

Personally, I’d rather there be 10000 amazing apps than 100000 mediocre ones. But even if the number of apps (vs quality) mattered, at the current growth rate, Business Insider (Ironically, reported on TUAW) projects that Android market will be ahead of the apple appstore in a few months. Android Market added 28,000 new apps in April 2011, whereas Apple lagged behind with only 11,000 new apps.

As of May 2011, Apple’s appstore had 381k apps. Android had 294k apps – keep in mind, that in Jan 2011, this difference in number of apps was about 160k. At this rate, Android appstore will have more apps in a few months.

As for “Android is fragmented many phone can’t run all resolutions/versions”, show me an iPhone 3G that can run iOS4. Almost every Android phone can be upgraded to the latest Android version even if the carrier isn’t pushing the update out in time – that’s the advantage of open source. Root the phone and install the ROM you want… try that with Apple devices…

As usual, most apple fanboys insist on making wild statements without any facts to back them up.

* more games, more apps, better graphics, better UI, better EVERYTHING. <– Again, if that's what you want to believe, sure… Personally, I like the customization that Android offers – live wallpapers, weather background, widgets for almost everything I want, contact shortcuts… so, no… iOS doesn't have better anything (let along everything)
* Name one android smartphone that is better, faster, than the iPhone? <– again, better in what aspect? Android phones give me more customization, let me connect my laptop (and other devices) to the web using a fast wifi connection using tethering, true multitasking, non intrusive notifications, … the list goes on.
Faster in what aspect? Android based EVO 3D, Droid etc have faster processors, more RAM, more storage (and allow fast external microSD storage) , 4G speeds

There really is no point in a debate when the other person has no facts, but wants to bang on the table and say "I am right, I am right, I am right" without presenting any facts. So, peace :)

You missed the “a” in that sentence. They’re undeniably “a” leading smartphone innovator. The most innovative? I doubt it… that would more likely be Blackberry and then later Apple. But they’re still one of the leading innovators, along with Sony, Samsung, Motorola, etc. Xperia Play is innovative as hell, I don’t care what anyone else might say. It’s a first-gen product but it’s still very innovative.

A mobile OS is a mobile OS, there’s only so much you can do to differentiate. WP7 took the bold choice of using a different shape for its icons but they still mimic IOS functionality in lots of ways. This is because IOS came first and therefore it has set the standard up until now. Come on… Windows copies OSX copies Linux copies OSX copies Windows copies Linux copies OS/2 or some other shit… all this “you stole from this” and so on is really getting old.

I like Android because it’s not tied to anything. It works best with Google products, but I can get similar functionality from market apps and off-market apps. I can plug it in and copy stuff in or out, using any format I want, without needing permission or an intermediary. I doubt Android will ever be as consistently positive of an experience as IOS, but there’s a broader range of things that are possible – and I think that’s what we should all be concerned with: What’s possible and how easy is it? IOS, Android, WP7, Blackberry are all different in this way and that’s all that should influence a buying decision. Not some silly notion of who did X first, or else we’ll be in a pissing contest stretching back into the 70s.
