Wish my Asus had one... I could think of several scenarios, business or personal, where audio and or video being recorded, without my knowledge, and transmitted who-knows-where, could be an issue, and not a minor one. It's great though that's not a concern for you ;)

What are you on about? If it's by Apple it's not malware or viruses! it's ART.

And no it's not a privacy issue, it's a social network!

I am shocked, shocked I say that MAC's are susceptible to malware and viruses and spyware apps. Welcome to reality where Apple has flown under the radar for far too long. I use a MAC and run Win7 on it. I cover the built in webcam, I find it just too creepy and frankly I don't trust Apple or an anonymous app to hijack said webcam. Of the 5 Apple computers I have owned all with webcams, I have yet to actually use them. I don't need it, and it should come covered at minimum. I know Jobs would find it aesthetically displeasing.

They do. Many Asus netbooks have a sliding cover built into the webcam.

But seriously, why would viruses ake pictures with your webcam? Most viruses are botnets or password sniffers. There's no "commercial value" in nude pictures of your girlfriend.

After reading about viruses and malware that can activate a webcam & microphone and transmit audio/video to an offsite location. I very much wish high-end laptops came without webcams as standard equipment -- would much rather plug one into my USB port as needed.

While I've disabled mine in the the system control panel, I'm not confident it couldn't be re-activated by some new virus...

Wouldn't be surprised if newer laptops have the equivalent of a camera lens-cap, low-tech solution to a new concern...
