I don't fully disagree with your assessments but to assume that Apple will not or continue to innovate even with 3d and 3d touch capacitive screens, to which they have many patents filled or approved, is a bad assumption.

Most people who make the Apple will crumble claims again wrongly assume that the are going to stand still. I think what Apple has made clear is that they understand "THEIR" type of consumer. Their type of consumer may not be you and may not be everyone whoever they do have a type of consumer that they are good at innovating for.

Also, and I will probably write an article on this, keep in mind Google does not yet but may by next year reach $10 ARPU per user per year. If Google sells to the US 500 million phones which would be huge and over 80% of the US market it would still only be a 5 billion dollar business. The iPhone business is over a 20 billion dollar a year business for Apple and they can make more than Google will significantly less market share.

With that kind of capital reserve they can spend more money on RND then most companies in all of the world. That is critical and keep them in a strong position.

The only innovation coming from Apple in the past few years is the judicious use of the capacitive touch-screens in their iOS devices. Apple was the first to take advantage of a new technology, and managed to market it successfully to the detriment of alternative entry methods such as handwriting recognition. However 3D screens will become increasingly popular, and touch screen input in the current form is even less suited for interaction with 3D interface elements. Thus, the advantage of the capacitive screens will be short lived.

Content distribution is another area where Apple had taken a lead over other tech companies, but as the technology matures content providers and consumers will eventually find a way to get rid of the middleman and this will plug the income for Apple and other resellers.

The App Store is still considered one of the major advantages of Apple against competitors, but Andriod is swiftly catching up and will soon take over.

Let me not go into the crucial role some individuals have for the company and the fact that they aren't always gonna be there.

All of the above I believe are good reasons for my prediction. The most important point is though that it is merely a guess, and my guess is just as good as anyones, "every institutional investor [you] know with a great track record" included.

Really? Perhaps elaborate on why? Every institutional investor I know with a great track record continually sites how strong the fundamentals of their business is. This era will not be like the PC Era where one OS dominates the landscape.

The best evidence I think for this is the automobile market. To which I think many future market similarities with the personal electronics industry will parallel.

The bottom line is everything that is happening is good, very good for the consumer. Competition is good, markets maturing are good, companies innovating is good.

The only thing that would give me concern about Apple is if they stop innovating. That has not yet happened. If it does I would be concerned but again the fundamentals are strong.

This article puts into perspective how much value Apple has delivered to the overall market and industry. Not just their products which many consumers find valuable for investment houses and individuals where capital value has been created because of their company.

Think about how many peoples retirement or mutual funds most likely all have a play in Apple stock. Their influence and value goes far beyond just their products, it would be ludicrous to say, as some claim, that the world would be better without them.
