Markiz is correct. what kind of computer do you have? a Windows computer? An Apple computer? a Linux computer. Windows specifically refers to a computer operating system. Now, per the App Store, everyone has an App Store. if you have a Samsung phone, you go to the Samsung App Store to get software. If you have a Nokia 900, you go to the Microsoft App Store. If you have an Apple phone, you go to the Apple iTune store which has Apps software and other things. So, App Store is generic !!!!!!!! If Apple thinks the Windows word is generic, then they can try and use it for their software, but that wouldn’t make much sense, right?

Agrreed, I worked in the mobile app selling industry many years ago (Symbians hayday) and we called our system an app store – now they want to claim that title as theirs own????

I have PC magazines from the 90s where the word app is used all over the place as slang for “application”. I’ve never heard Windows used as a generic term for an OS or GUI…

I always thought it was MS Windows, MS Office, etc. Anyways, to differentiate themselves, competitors would do wisely to pick a different word than the moronic abbreviation “app”.

I wonder, does Jon Stewart hold the rights to the word “apphole”?
