Apple servers are buckling to iOS 8 downloads

If you're having trouble downloading iOS 8, you're not alone. As the iOS world rushes to download the latest and greatest from Apple, the servers are feeling the strain. It seems some are having difficulties downloading the update, with reports of server failure trickling in.

iOS 8 dropped about 45 minutes ago, and Apple typically pushes their update en masse. This one is particularly big, with Apple noting in the release notes that it's the biggest since the launch of iTunes so many years ago.

The screenshot above was scoped via iTunes, with an iPhone tethered to it. As so many have iPhones, and possibly multiple iOS devices (like me), the strain is being felt by Apple's servers right now.

So, if you're not able to get it, just be patient. It's big, bulky, and half the globe seems to be trying to get it right this second. For what it's worth, my update shows 9 (nine!) hours remaining, so I'm pretty sure there is an issue.

We'll update this article accordingly, should we learn more about this troubling (but also mildly humorous) problem.
