There should be some massive boycott from Apple to show that people do not approve of their rampant law suits as of late. Sadly, I don’t think it would have much impact. People who don’t use Apple are already pretty adamant about not supporting such a horrible company, and people who do use Apple believe Apple produces devices for the Gods so good luck persuading them.

I don’t think anyone would deny that Samsung were influenced by the iphone.

Just as Korean cars used to look Japanese and German. They used those cars to “learn” the industry and gain some market share, but have you seen a KIA or Hyundai now? They certainly don’t look like Japanese knock offs, KIA, right now, have some of the best looking sedans on the market.

What does it mean, well what Samsung did is par for the course, it’s how Korean (and Japanese and Chinese etc) work, In Samsung’s case they took the iphone, built on it and now arguably make a better product.
Now the BIG difference is apple suing. Did Sony sue when Samsung started making TV’s. Of course not as how could you patent the rectangle? Sony didn’t sue and Samsung eventually overtook Sony and now, depending on your point of view make an arguably superior product.
The same goes for almost all consumer markets. There is always someone that makes a new and innovative product, but very often they are overtaken by quicker moving harder charging upstarts, Apple is not the first company to rest on their laurels and be overtaken in a market.

The difference is they didn’t try and sue for damages. Sony didn’t sue over the design of the Television, it’s why ultimately the case should have been thrown out, the precedent it creates is one of irrationality, will Mercedes sue everyone as they had the first combustion engine?

Apple have to accept that in their market will not continue to expand forever, that they simply can’t have all the market share, and consumers have to realise what Apple is doing is simply terrible for them personally. If they win and we lost all android phones and all other smartphones except apple’s, it becomes a monopoly and then what, 1000 dollar phones? IOS6 lasting till 2020?

America should know better than this, the case needs to die and apple needs to move on. If Apple offered me a compelling product again I would buy it. If they continue to behave like this though I would tihnk twice.

I don’t think they can justify anywhere near that sum. To earn such big damages they would have to prove that Samsung deliberately designed their phones so that people would buy them by mistake, confusing them for iPhones. Apple are very far from having presented such a proof.
They might be able to win some much smaller damages over some patent infringements (e.g., the action of bouncing back when a scrolling operation reaches the edge of a document).

this is the funniest court case in history. Its like Apple wants to take Samsung to court and expects Samsung to not have any say whether they are not guilty. The stupid thing is this judge is basically on Apple’s side by hobbling all their evidence. Even if Samsung is found guilty, there is enough evidence for a miss trial or at very least an.. appeal. Looks like judge Koh gets to keep her blood money and some more professional judges will have to re hear the case and allow all the evidence that Koh wouldn’t allow due to her biased ness.This is great reading and can’t wait for more installments of the silliest court case ever to be held.

Agree. The product that was the most similar to the iPhone was the world version of the Galaxy S, and the first touchwiz. Other than that, not really.

So, 1 phone.

but the Galaxy S III is so vastly different OS wise and shape wise, you won’t mix it up.

Some claim that Apple will try to use the Galaxy S phone as an “excuse” for how the whole Galaxy lineup got to be where it was now. So, they’ll try to get “compensated” for other versions (especially the Galaxy S III), claiming that without the Galaxy S, those phones wouldn’t be where they were.

Regardless, it just appears to be a desperate move for apple to try to crush out competition.

I am curious now to see what happens. Let’s say for arguments sake that Apple won 2.5 billion. Samsung would take the financial hit on one quarter, and probably take less tax as a result, It sounds like a lot of money but of the life of the company I am pretty sure they would have taken bigger write downs in their life.

OK so they win. Then what? Samsung will continue to make phones.

And as far as I can see the S3 is not part of this case so presumably will continue to be sold. The S4 S5 etc will all continue to sell very well.

HTC Sony and others are going to continue to make phones and eventually the public are going to catch onto the fact that in the world of smart phones the Iphone is not the be all and end all.

I just don’t see the point here, if they win, all they can do is say that Samsung once produced a product that was very similar to theirs, but the S3 they hold in their hand is nothing like an iphone so will people care?

Apple simply cannot stop the rise of android and why should they, competing systems are good for the consumer, they make each company push themselves to make better products.

Would android be as good without apple as a pioneer? would apple have changed their notification system without android?

What about all the other similar products from other companies that look more like an iPhone? I have a galaxy nexus and nothing on it even resembles an iPhone. If it did I would not have purchased this phone. Apple steals other companies ideas and “innovates” them. Instead of wasting time in the courtroom, apple should be trying to beat out Ms. They are finally in a great position especially with this windows 8 crap. I love windows 7 but windowss 8 is ehh. Guess apple has run out of innovations for now.

Let’s get this cleared out, I am no Apple user.
I think all this court drama is a lot of crap.
Even though I think all this is some overreaction of a scared Apple, I think they will win some of the cases (not all) and I am afraid Samsung will have to pay up some fine (a big sum I’m afraid). I tru(e)ly hope, Apple won’t win all of them.

Apple dosen’t need more billions. They would be much better off with a conscience and a big dose of honesty. Top that off with a reality check and add a pair off balls so their no longer afraid to compete and then Apple can make their own money again.
