Uhmmm… Samsung makes an awful lot of iPhone parts. Without Samsung there wouldn’t be an iPhone to begin with. The iPhone chips are made by Samsung at the Samsung factory in Austin, TX – very “foreign” of them giving jobs to Americans. How genius is Apple now?

This is why software patents are hurting innovation. We’re watching Samsung and Apple squabble over devices that will be completely different in 6 months time. The patents are valid for 20 years, yet the devices themselves are outmoded in less than 1.

The biggest appeal of the devices these days is the amount of customization offered by the software, and yet the jury is forced to judge the devices based on the stock experience, as if the similarities in the stock experience was going to be the sole driving factor for one of these companies going belly up. Meanwhile, yesterday Apple was named the most valuable company in history.

Everyone knows it’s the app ecosystems that sell devices. It’s all that Apple and Google can ever brag about, and it’s why Windows Phone still hasn’t yet hit it big with consumers. But since it’s not economically viable to sue the thousands of developers making copycat apps, hardware manufactures are apparently the next best thing to litigate.

What a mess.

Apple, supposedly an American company, has over $50 billion in offshore tax-havens. I don’t think they are better than Samsung. They need to stop suing everyone and wasting the public’s money on all these trials.
