Samsung is not playing a victim in this case. If you read the court hearing on Monday, you will clearly see Apple was begging and crying about these and tried to play a powerless victim. Apple infringed 3G patented technology. What’s wrong with Samsung going after their investment? Have you ever thought that Apple’s being ridiculous with their square is apple’s concept? There are several things that’s wrong with your post, such as courts finding Samsung infringed on the design. That’s not true. In fact, courts are finding that Apple’s claims are not to be valid, such as slide-to-unlock is Apple’s etc. So, good luck with that square lawsuit. I can see how desperate you are as a fanboi, from your language calling other people idiots.

What are you people on?? crack? Apple filed the first suit because Samsung CLEARLY copied hardware design and UI features (unless you’re blind most people agree). Protecting your intellectual property is not bullying you idiots, Samsung stole ideas from one of their customer, Apple is protecting their investment. PERIOD. If anybody is a bully that is Samsung, they wanted to steal and get away with it. Now that courts are finding the Samsung did in fact infringed, Samsung playing the victim and grabbing at straws.

Apple requested 250,000 euros for every galaxy tab sold. Now they are crying about meager 9.6% loyalty for four patent related technologies? Apple first claimed that they had license for those patents through Infineon, and Intel. After finding out that those licenses possibly expired in 2009, and other 10 manufacturers which supplied parts don’t actually have licenses, they claimed that Samsung is like Rambus and abusing its position. After saying that royalties were too expensive(kind of implying that they knew they should have paid since there were negotiations), Apple claims that these patent infringements are not important, and Samsung is simply trying to block the release of their new product line which apparently slows down the innovation (which is kind of ironic since Apple started this fight and blocked the launch of Galaxy product line in several countries. Shame on those courts for accepting fabricated pictures from apple so soon).
Apple shouldn’t have claimed that they “invented” square in the first place.If anything, Apple has another lawsuit coming up from Samsung which they will definitely lose for disclosing confidential negotiation terms such as “2.4%”. Apple must have been very desperate.Apple’s been cute, but they went too far with their “square-is-ours” lawsuits. Now they have lawsuits coming from all the other patent giants and the only thing that Apple has left is half ripped sign that says “we invented square”. I sometimes wonder why Apple started this fight that they have so little to gain even if they win.

That’s not true. Samsung tried making several modifications to keep Apple happy, and they didn’t accept any of them. Apple also doctored evidence to try to make Samsung products look more like Apple products, which itself demonstrates they’re not all that close to begin with.

For me all cars look like similar. All bikes look similar. Many more things that look similar and still doesn’t cast any doubt that one has copied the other.
Does apple have patent on curved edge, battery inside, glass screen, thickness etc.,
It looks ridiculous to file patents for such things and drag others to court.
Wicked mind I would say.

I am not a legal expert, but the Samsung design is just toooo close to Apple in my eyes. The copied the style, appearance and even the charger is more or less identical (with the exception of the color which they changed to black).

Samsung could do some slight changes to their design and the discussion would be over.

Anyway, both have good phones.

I currently have an Samsung Omnia 7, which clearly is not an iPhone look-alike.

But the Omnia 7 has a big drawback: I inadvertently touch the search button (not a hardware button) and get the search screen when I do not need it. It happens to me all the time. This is a big nuisance. The new Omnia 7 has the same problem since it simply is an hardware update of the Omnia 7. So Samsung had a chance to fix the problem but they didn’t. Wonder why.Let’s see how the patent saga goes, will be quite entertaining for the crowd and the investors as well.

I am personally quite curious how Samsung fares with an x86 W8 tablet and UltraBook.
They should have one before Apple has one … then they will have less problems.

As far as I am aware, someone holding a patent is legally entitled to demand whatever payments they wish. “Outrageous” is simply not a factor and in any case is in the eye of the beholder. Patent war is bad, but Samsung didn’t start until Apple sued them. Violating a hardware patent seems a bit more serious than some BS look-and-feel crap.

I was thinking the same thing. I’m in real estate, and when someone is purchasing a property, it’s the buyer responsibility to do due diligence. If Apple, or hte courts didn’t know what patents were currently in existence about 3G, then shame on them. That’s not Samsung’s fault.

Apple can’t cry now that Samsung pulled its Trump card. Samsung don’t have to accept any offer that isn’t acceptable to them. Just like Apple wouldn’t neogiate with HTC for a cross patent deal. What goes around come around. Now, Apple stands to loose alot more than Samsung with these lawsuits

Apple used the courts to kill off Samsung’s access to certain markets. The trade-dress arguments were dubious at best and it became ridiculous when the 7.7″ tablet was whisked away at IFA. Now Samsung have countered using 3G patents; which Apple are trying to sidestep with legal waffle and bluster.

I wish the German courts would tell both companies to get lost and play with pogo sticks in a minefield; but they are too square minded to do it. Legal eagles all over the planet are rubbing their hands with glee and hoping this idiocy runs for years; for them the recession is over.

If Apple feel that royalties at 2.5% of chip price are “outrageous” – how does Samsung feel about a flat out ban on “Galaxy” branded products in Germay? I would LOVE to see Apple’s main products (including iPhone5) locked out of Germany for months while Apple and Samsung bicker like fishwives. It would be poetic justice for Samsung – and such fun to watch; but unfortunately it wont happen – Apple is coated with Teflon.
