Is there any equivalent software to Final Cut Pro under Windows 7?

My only reason to buy a Mac Pro is for Final Cut Pro. But, if someone finds a video editing software that works as good as FC, then I will stay with Win because I can build a monster PC for 2k$

What about professional Logic users? When Apple acquired Logic Audio, they killed the PC version. If apple discontinues all of their pro apps, they are seriously messing with people's livelihoods. Look at FCP. What about DVD Studio Pro? Shake? I'm a professional composer and have used Logic and its various incarnations since 1990 long before Apple got ahold of it. If they force me to buy and learn another pro audio application and buy a new PC after dropping $4000 on a Mac Pro, I will never buy another Apple product again. They are turning a once great company into a consumer toy store. At the very least they should release the software to another company to continue development. I'm praying that they don't screw over numerous composers and music professionals who have invested in their products.

Or you could learn how to build your own workstation, then

overpriced TOOL for your work, you can tell them to go to hell.

I am sorry but you don't know what a hell are you talking
about. By building your own PC you could spend less than half as much as you
would for an equivalent Mac Pro. The most expensive thing would probably be
your graphic card.
What you never bought anything online, never heard about websites like Newegg?
Are you telling me you can't take two days out of your month to plan, buy parts
and build your PC? Oh, wait,.. you prefer to be spoon-fed?

Oh sure, like everyone is going to build their power user computer from scratch. I have a friend that is computer maven that did one that will run many faster circles around mac pros, but he is rich, doesn't work, and has the time to chase down all those parts. But this is the REAL world where 99% has to buy their power computer off the shelf.

I've been waiting a long time for the new Mac Pro: Since my G5 died early 2008.

What alternatives are there for photographic work requiring two monitors, internal raid 1+0 array, SSD boot disk and at least 16GB RAM? That is expandable and runs OS X?

Apple initially catered to the creative market. If they decide to abandon us now -- where do we go?

It's a drug. They fed it to me and I'm hooked. Now they're requiring going cold turkey?!
😢

BSOD in one hand, and spinning pinwheel of death in the other. Take your pick.

In my experienced opinion, Windows has been just as stable as Mac since XP came out, and Win7 may even push it ahead (only crash I've had in two years was running Crysis on a dying, poorly cooled graphics card). I've certainly never had more freezes/crashes than the Mac Pros at the ole' college computer lab. The bottom line is that any computer requires maintenance, and all the software you could ever want (sans FC of course) runs just as great on a PC.

Lol its
funny that you that, because if you open a mac pro you will find the same
brands and manufacturers for the components, like ATI, NVidia, Intel, Samsung,
western digital…. If you buy a cheap pc don’t expect to get too much from it. I
build a pc with the parts I know are from good manufacturers and it’s been
working for about 5 years without problems, and I use it for Photo Shop, video
editing, render without problems (games!!!). This system wasn’t cheap but not
as expensive as the mac pro, I have this one for the heavy work and a MBP for
good portability and I am happy with both!!!

What about heavy-rendering tasks like film-making and Photoshop? Drop in performance from a hammer to a tack hammer? Raygun, damned if I'll do CS5 on a PC... aaaacccckkkk! Sorry ass components in cheaper PCs and Windoze give out while Mac's superior components go and go and go. Certainly makes the higher price break on a Mac worth it.

And welcome to lots of crashing/freezing/rebooting. I understand why Apple is doing this, there just aren't enough of us left to justify continuing the product line. I've already resigned myself to having to make due with FCP 7 going forward. Now I'll have to hope to get as many years as I can out of my current Mac Pro, which is already 2 y/o.

Autodesk products have always worked better on PC's (initially designed for PC) and the Adobe design suits have worked better on PC since CS3. Problem is you can build a "mac pro" for fraction of the cost, get better performance and a better monitor. Mac monitors are good but not the best.

Windows 7 stepped up the ball game in reliability and user friendliness and design.

The problem for the Mac Pro isn't that the other Macs now have better connectivity, it's that the laptops and iMacs all have plenty of processing power for all but the most cpu intensive applications. 95% of Mac buyers can do just fine with another Mac.
