Agree. Apple is good at taking other peoples ideas and sometime even improving on them, but I can’t think of one single thing that Apple has “innovated” on their own.

What is funny is Apple has not changed a bit. They claimed they invented the personal computer, just like today when they claim to have invented the smart phone and tablets. If I remember the Altair 8800 was around way before any Apple computer.

today apple would sue them because it had a screen and a keyboard and so did their own.

Of course, in todays world apple would not exist because xerox would have, as large companies do today, patented all their crap as a matter of course.
So it still would just be sitting in a lab unexploited probably because would have never been able to copy it and sell it the way they did.

By the way, I just paîd $21.87 for an îPad 2-64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasonîc Lumîx GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS.I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.

There are some other examples of such welcomes to competitors. If I remember right, Recently, Boeing ran a full page ad on the day the Airbus A380 was launched, putting aside rivalries for a day and welcoming the A380. Approx 20 years ago, when Coke re-entered India, Pepsi ran a brilliant series of ads on the same day Coke launched (on the page before or after the Coke ad) welcoming Coke to the fray, and heralding the start of the cola wars in India. The ad was similar to the Apple ad (full disclaimer – I worked for the agency that handled the Pepsi account) and signed off with the brilliant tagline ‘Coke is the registered trademark of the Coca Cola company, Pepsi is the choice of a new generation’ (the Pepsi slogan of the time).

They invented teh PC like Al Gore invented the Internet.My first “PC” was an IBM 1620 and I could check out a key to the building and have it all to myself all night long.

Owned all but the apple I, MITS, IMSAI, SWTPC, AND TRS80 model II. My Atari was an 800xl.

Maybe they were more welcoming at the time because, even though the IBM pc was far from innovative, it wasnt just a direct rip-off like the Franklin.

Hardly a fast devs pace with the IBM platform too. It wasn’t until the “clone wars” they they started stepping up the game (and clock speeds) in 1987 my pc was only twice the speed of the original pc.

If it weren’t for clones we would probably all be using macs right now.. we should salute the lack of innovation and blatant copying of Compaq et. al. because they were primary factor behind mass “pc compatible” adoption.
