Your response implies limits were placed and continue to be placed on Android phones and that Android phones are not discounted. Las checked, the Galaxy S3 has been discounted and, to Google’s credit, they subsidized the heck on the Nexus 4 to move volume wit less carrier support. ($400 leaves very little margin to LG)

Regardless of business practices by Apple resellers, MARKET SHARE IS MARKET SHARE. It does not matter HOW they get there. If Apple decided to rain down 60million FREE iPhones, they have every right to claim market share. Same goes for Android phones.

Im with you a 100% on this one brother, looks like we have a couple of i sheeps in denial, Me and you and they no that apple NEVER EVER discounts its newest products that just released. Apple is all about making profit, they never want to help no one get there overpriced products at a good discounted price. Please stop being in denial guys, I been shopping for my family android phones, out of curiosity, every store i go to i ask them how many i phone 5 they have in stock, every store i went to they tell me they have PLENTY in the back. To make things worse just go and check out the apple on line store, IN STOCK, if i phone 5 was selling that well they would be showing 2-3 week waiting time like they were showing when the i brick phone just came out. Im with you a 100% The Truth Hurts, so those i sheep can take that 53.3% and shove it up there 4-inch ass.

Well one has to remember there are 10 different Apple devices covering some 3 or 4 generations to choose from. Those figures come from sales of the most recent generation mobile devices. 2 of which are purely WiFi only (iPod touch 4 and 5).

Android is a software platform only (Linux based) and is using a plethorah of devices from multiple companies.

That being said, it seems Apple is beeting the Android market with all Android devices combined…

Here is the thing: If the iPhone 5 is so much more popular than the previous versions, why has iPhone market share DECREASED in countless of countries AFTER the iPhone 5 landed in those countries?

1) Walmart, Target, Fry’s, Radio Shack, Best Buy & others (about anyone not a carrier or apple store) have the iPhone 5 discounted. anywhere from $50 to $100

1b) Yes, you are correct that the iPhones are discounted around this time. What you don’t mention is, it has /never/ been the new models! Just the old models!

2) Not DigiTimes, Fortune and other high rank media/blogs stated it.

3) Limit is removed, month earlier (respected media/blogs stated it)

4) Demand for Lumia 920 is so great that Microsoft pushed back giving all their employees one. Lumia 920 & 8X, if you want one, it is very hard to find one.

5) Galaxy S III actually saw an increase of sales when the iPhone 5 was announced. Galaxy Note is in very high demand. LG’s sales have increased massively.

Walmart is not “left and right”. Previous iPhone (like the 4S last year) were also heavily discounted at Walmart around Christmas last year.

There is no indication orders have been cut or reduced. In fact, DigiTimes, the source of your “knowledge” has also posted about an increase in purchasing from suppliers for the iPhone’s retina screen.

“a month early?” Apple never announced when the restriction would end. They actually lasted 4 weeks longer than planned. See how that work? Just make stuff up and write about it.

Very limited supply on the N4. Lumia 920 and 8X are very easy to come by.

Because the iPhone tends to outsell all Android phones combined when both are available on a carrier. That is the number 1 reason. This is true of AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. Add to that the 6-8 regional US carriers recently added over the 12 month period of this data, and that helps give the iPhone a HUGE boost. Makes you wonder what will happen if T-Mobile ever joins the iPhone party. Given the choice, people tend to prefer the iPhone over all other smartphone handsets combined.

The only source to indicates Apple has cut back on orders is DigiTimes. Nuff said. In the same time period, they have posted about Apple increasing orders and displays.

Massive discounting at Walmart and the same as happened last year and the year before and this is nothing new for the 1-2 weeks around Christmas and only the fools think differently.

The Truth really does hurt if you are willing to actually try and find it.

53.3% If that is true, 46.7% makes up all the rest. That is Android, blackberry, Symbian, webOS, windows Phones, whatever other OSes are in the market and still are.

What it is saying is that 53.3% of ALL SMARTPHONE SALES in America are iPhone.

The /only/ carrier where the iPhone is selling /more/ than the other smartphones is at&t! Sprint & Verizon? their android phones are selling more than their iPhones. T-mobile doesn’t have the iPhone, the list goes on.

/If/ the iPhone is doing that well, why has apple took off the limit? why has apple cut back on hardware orders? Why is the iPhone getting (massively) discounted?

Putting the puzzles together, and it doesn’t fit.

I think this data is only covering a 12-week time frame… though it’s not totally clear. If I’m not mistaken, the iPhone often outsells Android phones (in the US) right before Christmas… but then then Android reclaims the title for the rest of the year… though I’m not 100% certain on this.
The big news in this article is not really Apple, however, it’s Windows Phone 8. In a very competitive market… at a very competitive time of year… Windows Phone is gaining market share and is now officially the #3 phone OS in the US. That’s HUGE.

Edit: Is this CONTRACT ONLY phones, or combination of prepaid, contract, unlocked, etc…? That could make a significant difference, since iPhones tend to be bought under contract, yet there is a massive increase of people buying phones at full price, which aren’t mostly iPhones.

Also, when was this done? Was this done BEFORE or AFTER the Galaxy Note II landed, as well as the Nexus 4, Lumia 920, 8X, etc..?
