Just look at the paperwork. It should be cut and dried- does Apple have the rights and permission to use the iPad name for computing devices? If Apple, the entity, does not, and Proview is still in business, then Apple’s trademark attorneys are the laziests, least thorough attorneys on the planet

it wouldn’t be smart for apple to buy proview coz it broadcast to the world that apple is willing to pay off anyone brave enough to sue them whether their claims have merit or not. then hundreds of lawyers would come out from everywhere looking for small pay offs and settlements.

Let me guess, you use a typewriter and a rotary phone? Unless you use 20th century technology your device manufacturer does the same thing as Apple. It just doesn’t get any attention in the media.
For example, I don’t remember seeing any people in front of DELL, AMAZON, HP, etc. protesting against working conditions regarding a (the same) supplier in a different country.

I also don’t remember Apple selling rights to something and then (years later) trying to argue the deal was not valid.
Hate Apple as much as you want, but a ruling against Apple will probably harm China more then anything else. Who would trust the contracts they sign with China in the future?

They haven’t abused money at all…… All they have done is make me plenty of money through their strong business. Although apple maybe bought the iPad name in a shady fashion, proview is most likely a bit more shady. They obviously are suing bc they are bankrupt. They sold the iPad name bc their “iPad” product was terrible. Why would any high ranking representative sell the title of one of their products if it was worth keeping? They sold it for what they thought it was worth. Many companies purchase land, property etc under shell companies to hide their IDE tity. That is not a bad way of business bc the seller is getting what they think is “worth it”.
By the way I support products that actually work instead of crappy products made by other companies. I can list many electronic companies ranging from TVs to laptops that have bad products. They often “die” after a year or just don’t work smoothly. I can still turn on my original MacBook after years of use and abuse and it works like it was brand new.

Were they considering this when you sued Samsung? Apple, you don’t have any sort of divine right that puts you above laws. If they were to gain special treatment it really would be a scandal.

Wow, what an off the mark comment you have provided to the story presented. I think in this case you have to take out the fact that Apple has created a revolutionary device (I don’t believe anyone will argue that) and also take out the envy of the product by many (anything that shiny and simple to use will surely attract attention). The core issue here is that Apple has been using lawyers to stop others from just looking like them and trying their best to stop them from begin able to even do business. In the case of Proview here all they are trying to do is protect their trademarked name, which if the stories are true Apple truly tried to acquire shadily.

I do think that it would be interesting if Proview was purchased by a larger company with a bigger bank account, like Google or Samsung as called out earlier, to see how that changes Apples approach in this case. Right now I am getting the feeling that Apple is just planning to use its bank account to win and that again to me is just wrong. If you are wrong just admit it and work it out so the rest of us can move on to the next big Apple lawsuit, oh I mean cool innovative product.

That would be ruthless, but brilliant. I actually kind of wonder why Apple didn’t try to buy Proview over this. Maybe they just like giving their lawyers something to do? Maybe Proview wouldn’t sell?

I’m not standing up for Proview! Its just good to see Apple get a taste of the s hit they have been dishing to everyone else! I WAS an avid apple fan! I HAD a few ipods, iphone and macbooks…. But I now refuse to to give anymore money to a company who abuses its power, position and money. F UCK APPLE!
All apple does is continue to roll out revolutionary gadgets……….are you so blind or plain stupid to see what they are doing!!!

Sounds like some apple haters. All apple does is continue to roll out revolutionary gadgets one after the other. What other company is capable of doing that with products that actually work perfectly and are worth the money? I can’t believe you guys are standing up for a Chinese company that is obviously bankrupt and incapable of producing anything worth purchasing. I bet apple works this out and continues to be a heavy hitter in the industry. Of course someone will say that apple sucks or something because they do business in china, but who cares. Almost every electronic is made outside of the US anyways. You can’t bash apple for creating products that are the envy of other tech businesses. Numbers speak for themselves. If apple really does “suck” and got the “karma” they deserved then why are their products so effective and revolutionary?
