seriously does nobody build there own PC anymore? The price hike for a premade system is just to much in my mind I would much rather buy the compnents and build it myself. I had to use mac’s back when I was in college and been honest they were awfull then and still are Apple really is just a fassion thing nothing to do with usability no real use for gaming either seems most games are directx

Not quite a mockery. Maybe a dent, maybe even a big dent. I’ve been using Win8 for months and I gotta say it rocks. I don’t know of any Mac’s with an 8 second boot up from a cold start.

Do those numbers include the iPad’s for Apple and the other various slates made by PC manufacturers? Can those be counted as “Computers” seeing as most don’t buy them to do their taxes, photo and video editing and other tasks a laptop/desktop Mac can do?
If so, why aren’t we including smartphones since they can do just about all the same things a pad can do… and in 1080p HD

I love how everyone is sooooooooo narrow-minded when it comes to “stats”. The US is such a SMALL piece of the pie(as much as you Americans would like to think otherwise). Give us WORLD-WIDE stats to give us a clear picture of how a certain company is doing.

I can see how Apple sales are growing. A lot of PC owners who have an iPhone are probably getting more and more interested in the Apple brand. Would make sense that they might switch out their PC for a Mac

I agree that line was stupid, but there is no doubt demand for Windows is on the decline. And Microsoft doesn’t report end-user consumption of Windows, they report how many licenses have been sold. So the millions of PCs and laptops that are sitting in a box somewhere between manufacturing plant and Best Buys shelves are also included in those numbers, as well people just upgrading their current computer. People upgrading their current computers does nothing to help HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus etc to move more units, just adds more money to Microsoft’s wallet lol

That’s what Vista and Win7 were supposed to do. And if you’re including tablets running Win 8, you should include iPads too. On standalone computers though, I fail to see Windows 8 adding anything to computers. Microsoft must have forgot that’s where the demand for Windows is lol

I like both: Mac OS X and Windows 7, it’s Vista that I hate and my main PC (Desktop) has it, I bought it at the end of the Vista cycle so i didn’t replace it with a Win7 PC so when Win8 comes out I’ll be buying a new desktop PC right away.

I think this is mostly due to nothing new and excitingI in the PC market last year, so there wasn’t a need to upgrade your current PC. I also agree Windows 8 will turn these numbers around. I doubt the majority of the world will change from Windows anytime soon.

well it shouldn’t include the iPad… It’s not a “computer”, a computing device, sure. But since it will not let me run my own code/software on it, it is not a computer to me.

Also as the ARM devices that will be running windows 8 will require secureboot to be enabled, and not disable-able, they won’t count either. No custom drivers, and likely no custom apps. Anyways, my unasked for $0.02 USD.

I’ll say the same thing that I did last time: while “important” in the United States, Apple is a footnote in the global marketplace not even large enough to breach the “Other manufacturers” category. Meanwhile, Lenovo will likely be the largest manufacturer of computers in the world inside of 6 months. It’s sad that you guys refuse to act professional enough to put your disturbing fruit love affair aside for more than one sentence and make mention of that fairly significant turn of events.

Once again, these are data for the US market only. Worldwide, Apple remains an asterisk at the bottom of the pile. In fact, Lenovo’s growth for the year was more units than Apple’s entire sales. Windows PCs are in a transition from the old guard to the new standard bearers of Lenovo and Asus. Apple merely got a ‘Death Bump’ in their sales, both for iOS and Mac.
