skagraw2, I agree that software patents are bullshit; as to obvious ideas, that is where the "magic" lies: believe it or not, most people lack the imagination to see what is obvious to a few; therefore, when presented with an implementation of what anyone with some tech savvy can master under favorable circumstances, most people are in awe. They do not understand how disruptive for progress patenting those obvious ideas can be.

Satsuki/Gil - all these patents are invalid. it may appear novel in absence of touch displays. Once the touch display is available any engineer would come up with same set of ideas that apple came up with. I find it disappointing the US and other country patent office are issuing patents on obvious ideas.

Good for for Apple, regardless to how you feel about them as a company, the product (iPhone) did start a evolution and without thinking too long I found other great innovations that later on became standard in all other mobile OS:

- Finger gestures to scroll down/up lists
- Automatic rotation from portrait to landscape
- Pinch to zoom
- A proximity sensor to deactivates the display when talking…
- Use of capacitive screens in mobility (no stylus!? no way! )
- Compass
- AppStore
