Are you saying that other major manufacturers offer free technology upgrades as said technology emerges? Maybe I should complain that my '82 Mustang didn't come with a navigation system and Ford will cough one up. Siri was available as a free app but stopped being updated after it was bought out by Apple. Now it's a device exclusive part of IOS5, such is life, but I do miss that seldom-used app.

sorry, but couldn't resist. This has been apples strategy ALL ALONG if you're not blind; forcing you to buy new equipment because of new technology emerging only to new devices. Not supporting Siri on iPhone 4 Surprise?

So the older phones CAN use Siri, but Apple makes you pay them for a new phone instead. While Apple devices are cool, I don't understand how the company is beloved, when it clearly is based on screwing consumers out of as much of their money as possible in order to collect their crazy-high profit margins.

Of course, I never understood the appeal of designer handbags, either, which are based on the same model of producing legitimately high-quality products, but then pricing them way above cost on account of not much more than the brand name.
