But Mac Rumors took into account more than that:

“When comparing prices, instant discounts were considered better than rebate discounts even if the rebate offered up to $10 greater savings. In general, we tended to favor BestBuy’s instant discounts over MacMall’s combined (instant + rebate) but in the case of the MacBook Pro, MacMall offered equivalent instant discounts to BestBuy as well as sizable rebates”
